SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS (Update to OPDX.1420). A couple of weeks ago OPDX was
contacted by Kostas Stamatis, SV1DPI, and he updated/corrected details
about Monk Iakovos, SV2RSG. He mentioned that Monk Iakovos does not have
a license from the Holy Council to operate, so his QSOs are "NOT" good
for DXCC. However, in the August QST (pages 65-67) there is an interesting
article called "A Pilgrimage to Mount Athos" written by Peter Vekinis,
LX1QF/KH6VP/SV0GV, where he states, "Monk Iakovos is currently the only
one permitted to operator from Mount Athos.... Monk Iakovos is a SSB
operator who wants to improve his CW knowledge.... he hopes to have a
full Amateur Radio station set up by the end of 2019. He already has a
donated IC-7300, small handheld transceiver, and a few other pieces of
equipment. His biggest issue is that he has no power and needs to have a
beam antenna and solar panels installed." OPDX has written to Kostas,
SV1DPI, about the recent article and he stated that he cannot confirm
whether Monk Iakovos has received a license from the Holy Council to
operate. He did say that since Peter, KH6VP, is Greek, he also and possibly
has better info. Kostas suggested to contact the DXCC to see if they are
now accepting SV2RSG QSLs for Mount Athos. OPDX has sent an E-mail to
ARRL Field Services and Radiosport Manager Norm Fusaro, W3IZ, to see if
the SV2RSG QSLs are good for Mount Athos, but we have not received a reply
back as of print time. All we can say WFWL (Work First Worry Later)...
ADDED NOTE: Also in the August QST (pages 92-93) there is a excellent
article written by Bernie McClenny, W3UR, called -- "Remembering Monk
Apollo, SV2ASP/A, Mount Athos' First Ham". It contains details about the
history of Monk Apollo, Mount Athos and how it got its DXCC status.

T33T BANABA ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS. Looks like this activity "may" take
a little longer than expected. Dom, 3Z9DX, was seen reporting problems
    (on FaceBook https://www.facebook.com/groups/110389536041840/) with the
3 Icom IC-7300 radios that were used on the 3D2CR Conway Reef DXpedition.
He states, "3 Icoms 7300 lost RX audio after been used on expedition for
10 days in high temp and very high humidity." Radios are currently at
    Icom Japan.
ADDED NOTES. NO specific dates were announced yet. It is recommended
to watch the T33T (Banaba Island) on the QRZ.com Web pages, the Rebel DX
Groups Web and FaceBook pages for updates:

VP6R PITCAIRN ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Update). The following was posted
    on July 9th and 10th:
    * July 9, 2019: Our sea container arrived in New Zealand on schedule
and intact. It has cleared customs and quarantine. Its contents and
associated documentation were such that no fumigation was required.
The next step will be unloading the container and transferring our
supplies and equipment to the Braveheart when the vessel is ready to
take them aboard and secure them.
Now —— we have to pay this.....

    * July 10, 2019: We deeply regret that Jerry, WB9Z, must withdraw from
the Pitcairn Island on-island DXpedition team. Jerry has had long-
standing knee problems and feels the stresses from the Pitcairn Island
terrain may cause him undue pain and difficulty. However, Jerry will
assume the role of our chief pilot and remain very much involved with
the DXpedition. Our thanks to Jerry for what he has already contributed
and for the role he is assuming.
Allan, EA3HSO, will take Jerry’s place on the island. Allan is a
budding new DXpeditioner with an exceptional skill set, team-orientated
attitude, abundant energy, and a voice for Europe. Welcome to the
    team, Allan!
