Lately, as in, the last few days, when I press New Posts, the results don't make a whole lot of sense. Most of the time, they are all repeats, as in I've already read them, and some don't show up as new. The same happens with Subscriptions.
I am running Chrome 16.0.912.77 m and nothing has changed (intentionally anyway) on this computer in a long time.
Is this something wrong on my end, or on the server side?

Same thing happens when I visit my Subscriptions page. Often, the thread shows up as bold (indicating new posts) when there have been no new posts since I visited those threads. It's happened at least 6 or 7 times today.

The Subscriptions page used to work great for seeing which posts I haven't read since my last visit, but it hasn't worked right for some time.

Same thing when I visit a particular forum page, such as http://forums.qrz.com/forumdisplay.php?33-Antennas-Feedlines-Towers-amp-Rotors or http://forums.qrz.com/forumdisplay.php?11-General-Technical-Questions-and-Answers. The posts are only bold ("changed or new since last visit") down to a certain point that day (usually) even though they used to be bold for say, three days if it's been that long since I viewed the forum.

    I'm using Firefox 11.0, and I'm not changing. :)

I used to use New Posts but find that Quick Links does the same thing and works better. Don't know why. I use IE8

Ok, I just found out how to duplicate the problem on the subscription page.

All I have to do is close Firefox and re-open it, and the threads I've already read at http://forums.qrz.com/subscription.php are now bold as if there are new posts, when there are NO new posts.

Even refreshing the page doesn't fix it, so it does not appear to be a cache problem. I don't have this problem on other forum sites, only QRZ.

It sure wasn't always like this. It would be great if you could solve this, Fred. :)

EDIT: I wonder if it could be solved locally by removing a corrupted cookie(s)? There are many, many qrz.com cookies saved on this PC, and before I remove any, I'd appreciate some input.

The problem seems to be fixed all of a sudden. :)

    Time will tell.

New Post only works for me in a current session. I don't store the cookie.

Apparently, it used to not be cookie-based, and I'm not sure it is now. I used to be able to check new posts on any computer here in the house, so it must have been in the QRZ database. It worked great most of the time. I don't know exactly when the problem developed, as I was away from QRZ for some time.

I have only been using one computer to access QRZ for the last month. I only "assumed" it got switched at some point from storing the read posts data from the QRZ database to cookies, but I'm not sure at all how it works.

And forget what I said yesterday about it being fixed. It's not.

Everything is the same here except that I'm running Chrome.

I updated Chrome to "18.0.1025.162 m" and the problem *seems* to have been resolved.

I noticed today that on eham.net, that no matter which computer here I access their forums on, the unread posts/forums, the new posts follow me and not the computer.

That's the way it USED to work here on qrz.com, but not any more. And that is very disappointing to me.

Okay, I stand corrected; it's squirelly again.

From what I can tell, QRZ now uses cookies and ones that Expire At end of session.

That could suck if you close your browser or use another computer.

That's probably my problem. I rebooted yesterday.

For months when clicking view new posts I get a no new posts message. I have to click, click here to see the previous 24 hours posts.. Been that way for months and months...

I use this link for Daily New posts. It works for me.

    This is getting pretty frustrating.

I've used numerous forums working under a few different operating systems. Those using vBulletin do seem to have the most problems, but I've never encountered a site as bad as this one (phpBB is by light-years the most solid over any other from my experience, but that's a whole different topic). If I sign in through the main page, all new posts are reset. If I'm reading the forums and look up someone's call for location or information, all new posts are reset. Some days I login (through forums.qrz.com so it doesn't automatically reset the status of the posts) and click on a 'new' or 'unread' post, it's not new at all & the last post in the thread is the one I read yesterday when it showed as new... and the day before when it showed that post as new... and the day before when... you get the idea.

I feel like I'm walking on eggshells just to not upset the forum. I've noticed that there have been reports of this from users with nearly every browser/os combo out there using different settings for privacy (cookies and the like). I've reconfigured my browser a number of times to test different theories of why this is happening & have slowly ruled them out one by one. It seems pretty obvious to me that this is not a client-side issue. I think it's also safe to say that (like anything in life) if one person reports an issue, there are several more experiencing the same issue who've not said anything about it for one reason or another.

I do like this forum; there's a great wealth of information here, and while there are a few trolls & those who feel the need to post without actually reading the OP or the previous replies, it seems to be a lesser problem than with other sites. But what good is that information when you can't find it or keep up to date with it? It's like drawing a magic marker mustache & bushy Groucho-esque eyebrows on the Mona Lisa. I've been frustrated to the point of going to other ham forums and writing this one off, but keep getting driven back here from numerous trolls, lack of activity, quality of posts, etc. However, every time I come back the general un-useability & virtual train-wreck that seems to define the operational side of this forum reminds me why I stopped using it in the first place.

I guess today just set me over the edge since I was being oh-so-careful & I clicked a link in a post that appeared to link to a PDF providing more detailed info on the particular subject at hand but it was actually a link to that person's QRZ profile. Poof, all new posts unmarked.

I appreciate our moderators volunteering their own time to keep this running & don't want others to misread this as a put-down on them, I'd just like to see this potentially great resource operating as intended and not with the numerous wide-spread issues that it has now and has had for quite some time. It seems like these are not being addressed what so ever.
