Transmitters and receivers for frequencies this low can be built from almost anything. Many inexpensive switching FETs are actually designed to operate at frequencies like the ones in the new "allocations." A CW receiver could be as simple as a 567 tone decoder chip, or one of the related PLL chips. An example can be found here [amalgamate2000.com]. A transmitter could be made by sampling the 567's LO, then running it through some switching FETs to amplify the signal. An op-amp could be used as a buffer, and there are oodles of op-amps that can do 500kHz with plenty of gain.

A 500W transceiver for LF should be much easier than for HF, and I expect to see people building them for next to nothing.

My time divides across many spectrums. I clearly do not have an interest in (building) starting from scratch on these bands because of that. I am not alone on this.

I fully appreciate that those who have the time can enjoy starting from scratch. FB.

Please note the US-based and US-targeted release actually uses the 'comma' correctly.

    The OP's title does not.

I believe they have little actual interest in the ARS, beyond its 'nuisance' (DQRM) issues and the potential for EC assistance.

I am curious, what licensees would you pick to displace in the 5 MHz area? Perhaps, you are unaware of current, active licensees in that segment of the HF spectrum (which includes nowadays a number of state assignments for intrastate and interstate emergency comm systems like the "SECURE" and also the SHAred RESources (SHARES) systems)?

Using the FCC's ULS search engine:

    http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchAdvanced.jsp

One can view the licensees that have access to that spectrum by using the "Frequencies" search function which is one box up up from the bottom. Enter a frequency range of interest and click search.

As far as users of HF go, below is a sample allocation I looked up incidently a few weeks ago for a project. It is for a pipeline company, note the allocation in and about the 60m band, also note the power levels allowed, 750 Watt transmitter and 1000 Watts ERP. Note the band of frequencies allowed near the 60m band.

Relax everyone! Deep breath. Why complain about new colors being added to our box of crayons? If you don't like or need those colors of the spectrum, don't use them. It's OK to paint a different picture. I probably won't use them, but it's nice to have them there. I'll watch and listen.

Experiment with what we have and enjoy it. Share it with others.

I read some of the comments here and on other sites, and I am left convinced that if someone walked up to some of you guy's and gave you 1 million dollars, you would bitch about having to pay the taxes on it.

Just like the microwave bands are primary experimenters {who have made huge advancements by the way}, so will these new bands be primary supported by experimenters.

The wonderful thing about this hobby is that no matter what your primary interest...there is something for everyone. Enjoy it, rather than bitching all the time.

Oh come on, you are getting this worked up because someone from another country did what they are used too?

    Chill out guy.

I may never operate on these bands, but I am excited to see the ham bands grow, rather then shrink........I love the idea of the challenges and I hope when I retire up at the ranch that I can take advantage of them.

How much do you want to bet the Comet CHA250-B has a 1:1 SWR on these bands too!

    Hmmm..

Can those (now out US manufacturer out- of- business) Ramsey BCB AM transmitters (do I have that right)? Be easily modified for the 630M band?
