    I have a D-104 with a TUG8 stand. Using it on a Kenwood TS-830S. It works great.

However, I have to squeeze the PTT bar when I want to transmit. I don't have a manual for the mic so I don't know if there is a way to use the mic for VOX operation.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

the battery is connected/disconnected by the PTT switch. No power available from the radio. gonna go through a lot of batteries unless perhaps you find a nice quiet souece of replacement power. otherwise you would just slide the little ring up at the bottom of the PTT bar, & turn on Vox

dunno if this would be quiet enough, but you could always add a little filtering..

Normally you lock the PTT bar with the round ring and put the radio in VOX.

    Just like Bubba said.

If that don't work, Or the ring is missing, Do what Bubba would do.

    A wire tie works too.

Then you can slide it up and down, Without getting your fingers sticky.

But you said to do what Bubba would do.
I would be more likely to have Duct Tape handy.
if it moves, but shouldn't, use Duct tape.
If it doesn't move, but should, use WD40

Cornbread usually doesn't come with wire ties....

Yeah, that's my problem. When I squeeze the bar or slide the ring up, the xmtr keys. I would think that I could slide the ring up and then, with the VOX turned on, the xmtr would only transmit when I spoke. But it ain't working that way.

Anybody got a suggestion - OR a schematic of the D104? There's got to be an easy solution to this.

Disconnect pin #2 (PTT) on the TS-830 mic connector. (Or the wire on the D104 that goes to it.)

Here's the schematic for the active pre-amp version of the D-104:

Here's the schematic for the older D-104 stand that lacks the mic pre-amp:

I've seen some D-104 bases modified to include a PTT on/off switch so that you can do as Don suggests (break the PTT line to the rig) without completely losing PTT functionality.
