    I recently added the ACOM 600s amp to my shack. Up to that time I used the internal tuner in my TS590s to load my home brewed vertical (35.5 ft copper pipe). To use the amp I needed an external tuner and I chose the 998RT which is basically a 998 in a weather proof box. It is mounted at the base of the vertical and so far it has performed within my expectation. I tune it with a 10 watt carrier and so far it has yet to start tuning while the amp is being keyed. The trick I learned is to make sure it stops tuning before operating the amp. Since I can’t see or hear anything from the tuner, I watch the SWR meter on the rig and wait until it stops changing before I attempt to use the amp. It usually take less than 2-3 seconds but I have seen it going for more than 6 seconds. Once it stops at a reading of 1.5 (or better) I am good to go. Hope you find this somewhat helpful.
