Recently purchased a 940 on eBay. Love this radio! AM was unusable above a watt or 2. Learn more about the modification here...

Simply a higher level collector modulation of the pre-driver on the RF board. I am making a PCBoard for those wishing to wire up and go. Classic audio circuit ...NO MAGIC.

The mod results ~30 watts of carrier with plenty of
modulation. I run mine at 10 watts into the amp. I'm on 7.290 AM with the group in the evenings if you want to hear the mod.

Carl... Oh, I'll have pictures on the site later tonight 9/21
Pictures are there. The TS-930S has the same RF circuit so you could get the same results with that rig.

I wonder if you could explain a bit more about the need for the mod.  I have a TS940 and have run AM a few times with no apparent problem.  Just set the carrier level inside the top cover to what the manual says, crank the mic gain a bit and watch the monitor scope to be sure that not too much modulation occurs.  Just a bit puzzled what is gonna do for me.  Thanks,
