I just purchased my tm v71a this week and one of the features I wanted to use with it is the "remote control" feature.

The problem I'm having is that the manual says to set the 3 digit remote ID menu 522 and answer back menu 523. problem is my radio menu doesn't have 522 and 523, it just goes from 520 and skips to 527.
the manual says this is for "K" type radios which mine is.

I try entering remote control mode from power off pressing R+power and the radio just gives a high pitch beep and just goes to "normal mode".

I've dug through the mcp-2a software and found the setting for answer back and remote ID, I set them appropriately and still the radio will not enter remote control mode.
I just don't understand why this is or what I have to do to fix this.
    radio firmware version is 2.10
Thank you for your time in advance.

the manual even says the option is available for "k" models.
I wonder if they eliminated the option for remote control but makes no sense that the manual says you can.

I have the same problem, I tried to find something in the software, but coming up empty. I have 2 of these and can't get to the menu 522 on either one

Well I emailed kenwood and this is their response.

"This information is for the Kenwood TM-V71A, and TM-D710GA

    concerning DTMF Decode.

TM-D710GA serial number B8610001, and above

TM-V71A serial number B8610081, and above

These units in the future will no longer have DTMF decode capability,

effecting Wireless Remote Control ONLY in cross band operation.

They will still have cross band repeat operation just without the

    DTMF remote control functions.

The DTMF chip is no longer available."

The remote control was the one reason I decided to purchase this radio over the yaesu and they discontinued it.
