I now have 30+ of these units, but havent software nor cables to program them. I would also like to have the basic specs on them, KWD nolonger lists them. Has anyone put one of these on 440 ?

I think the T840n is just a narrowband version of the TK-840. It should use the same software and cable, KPG-25D software and KPG-4 cable (or aftermarket equivalent). The software runs on DOS.

I had an 840 about 10 years ago, and it worked on the ham freqs, at least the ones I had programmed in. Don't know how low it might go, however.

The narrowband version might be a problem if using regular repeaters and such. It is 2.5KHz dev on TX and RX. The TX is easily fixed by cranking up the dev, but the RX may sound distorted or "cut out" when picking up normal dev signals.

You will need to determine if you have Type 1, 2, or 3 for the UHF versions.

For the TK-840 Mobile you should obtain the KCT-19 accessory cable
and a copy of the service manual. Most of the functions (COR,PTT,AUDIO) are brought out to the rear connnector supplied on the end
("flying lead") of the plug and play cable.

Your local Kenwood Dealer should be able to supply everything.
If not Kenwood Parts "Pac-parts" is another public source -- you can use
your credit card to order what you need.

The standard TK-840 radio was popular with some GMRS operators
    (available cheap as surplus).

Eyesight good enough for Internet/computer usage --
The Owner's Manual is at Repeater Builder's Tech Info Page (TIP)

The TK-840N has the land mobile (Part 90) narrow banding performed at factory.
ComSpec has an after market kit.

Intercept Radio (Monitoring and SWL hobbyists) has details for
    your SOFTWARE programming question:
