So I'm monitoring 7.185 and I hear a very difficult station-to-station, domestic contact...

I hear both stations using their own "Personal Phonic Code", me thinks after monitoring this mess, PPC can be down right counter-productive.

    "Japan, Texas Five Willow Nelson"...

I listened to these domestic stations, struggling to clarify the're call signs for a good minute or so. They finally got it right. Propagation was fine, as I could hear both stations, why the 'PPC'?

Is their something wrong with using the standard NATO format (or whatever the Hell is's called) so we can all start off on the same page of our QSO?

Is it too much to ask?

I have had my call sign for about 5 years and I will ALWAYS be known as:

    Kilo-Mike-Six-Charlie-November-Delta

Or on FM as "KM6CND" and nothing else.

Yes, yes it is too much to ask. The FCC encourages the use of phonetics; but they don't say what phonetics.

What you hear isn't always what they hear.
Sometimes Italy is easier than India, sometimes Sugar is easier than Sierra. But Xanthone never is better than X-Ray.
    Personally I don't care.

To recap, both stations were domestic...one of them was literally in the same city as me o_O and the other station was in Colorado.

To recap, there is no mandatory phonetic set. Open your mind a bit.

No, it's not too much to ask. It's simply too much to expect.

Don't sweat the small stuff. This is small stuff.

    Now go work some DX!

Perhaps the problem was in the hearing aids of the stations involved?
