Sir Knight Ishmael Trevino Gonzalez (KB5AVB), 75, of Austin was called home by our Heavenly Father on January 9, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ismael and Cesaria Gonz?lez and brothers Ray and Ruben.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Terri Olvera Gonzalez; children Audrey Christine (Amir) Mahboubi, Christopher (Elizabeth) Gonzalez and Christian R. (Jodi) Gonzalez; grandsons Eric Indiana, Michael, Matthew (godson) and Julian Gonzalez; granddaughter Ashley Beranek; sisters Alice G. Garcia and Delia (Joe) Garza; and loving family and friends.
He was born in San Antonio on December 9, 1942. Raised in Austin by tios Estanislado and Maria Garcia, he lettered in track and played percussion at Johnston High School graduating in January 1963.
He married his high school sweetheart Terri in November 1963.
After 35 years, he retired from Artcarved. He joined the Knights of Columbus at St. Julia Catholic Church.
He was a founding member of St. Paul Catholic Church, a charter member of KC Council 10209 and a member of the Bishop Reicher Fourth Degree Assembly 1099. He was very involved in church life at his parishes of St. Julia, Dolores, St. Catherine and St. Paul. He served as a lector, eucharistic minister and played guitar at Mass. He was a part of the prayer group at Dolores and played bass in the Catholic rock band Genesis II.

He joined CB radio in the 1970s as "The Blue Crusader" a reference to his blue VW bug and his Catholic faith. Early each morning, he would read the Gospel on Channel 13.

He earned a General HAM operator license as KB5AVB and made contacts on every continent.

An accomplished guitar player, he taught many, including his sons, how to play. He enjoyed playing at church, for his grandsons and especially serenading his wife. A hard-working, family man, he made every sacrifice to give his wife and children the best life he could. He gave his children the gift of higher education and was proud of all their accomplishments. He was even more proud of grandchildren.

    KB5AVB is Silent Key.
