I feel like I've lost it after many years in the Mac world.

I formatted a 2 GB SD card in the 7300 per instructions.

Downloaded the 1.14 firmware update from Icom

Cannot copy the .dat file to the SD card. The SD card is not writeable.

    What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the write protect switch on the card or adapter is not flipped to the locked/write protected setting.

Ok, after doing some research and trial and error I found out:

The card reader on my MBP (2011) does not like SD cards anymore.

The switch in the unlocked position makes no difference, still not writable

Mounting the SD card into my Nikon D80 and then connecting the USB cable to my Mac allowed me to copy the firmware file to the SD card (which is now writable) and then perform the firmware update on the 7300.

Per some suggestions on the Apple User Forums I played with the Lock switch on the SD card by moving it slightly from the Locked position towards the unlocked position incrementally. After a couple of tries I found a position that allowed write access from the desktop. It is somewhere between Locked and unlocked but not in either position fully. You have to play around with it to find the sweet spot.
