How to reset a Baofeng UV-5R without using the Menu button

I did something with the crazy radio and now it is locked and can not change anything. The manual says to reset the radio to go into the menu, go to a specific menu that will reset everything. The problem is that I can not get into the menu in order to get to that particular menu to reset the radio,

Does anyone know of another way to reset the UV-5R WITHOUT using the menu option ?

Help greatly appreciated.

 

I got this off Google, don't know if it will work, but one guy got into the menu after turning the radio on WHILE holding the monitor button down. ???

If that doesn't work try the radio programming software, you should be able to unlock it with that.

 

Menu item 24 in the detailed operating manual explains how to unlock the keypad.

You don't need to get into the menu to unlock the radio.


When ON, the keypad will be locked if not used in 8 secs. Pressing the [#╓O] key for 2

seconds will unlock the keypad

 

Sorry guy's and gal's I tried everything you suggested and I still can't unlock the darn thing.

I guess that's what you get for buying a radio for like $65

Thank you everyone for your assistance, I'm not giving up yet. To the person who suggested using the software I didn't purchase the software and cable when I picked up this radio. I should have spent some extra money and bought a VX-6R instead.

 

If it is bricked then you maybe able to do reset it manually using a jumper. But it should not be bricked.

What were you doing when it got hosed ?

I was in the menu changing a setting, can't remember what now but nothing that should have locked the radio up.

 

I think a cable can be had for about $10 US, maybe cheaper.

It may be worth having if you own that radio.

I guess you removed the battery ?
