    So it is working somewhat.....

    In MixW, if I click on a DX spot, the radio responds. If however, I turn the VFO knob, the frequency displayed in the log bar does not follow. I also cannot get good response in HDSDR or MMTTY. Possibly a proper CAT cable is in order.

    It looks like you have flow control set to none, But you are wired for hardware flow control.

    At least you are making progress. :)

    Have Fun.

    Great.
    Easier, smaller, and cheaper than 25+ years ago ...Technology marches on.

    FTDI for this FT-234X chip is likely INVERTS the Control Lines (RTS#, CTS#) as standard ... So you would NOT need to INVERT RTS and CTS in FT_PROG software.
    That should correct any serial hardware flow control.

    Try that using the FT_PROG utility (Not checking the boxes).

    Sounds promising! Will give that a try tonight.

    Okay, so that didn't work. I removed the invert CTS and RTS check marks, no change. But now it is even recognized by MixW. Have I bricked it? Anyway to reflash it?

    May have to invest in another cable.

    I've got it back working as before, but turning VFO still does not update the log frequency.

    ...and the USB serial converter keeps assigning a new COM PORT # every time I boot up the computer.

    Okay, so I still have not been able to get the adapter to read the frequency on the fly. If I click on a spot on the cluster, the radio follows. But that's it. It will also not follow the radio in MMTTY.

    So I am looking at one of these:

    Rather than go USB, I'll use a serial port on the computer. I will note, the converter in my USB plug is an RS234, not an RS232. Not sure if that has any influence on my problem.

    I can't see how in MixW to set it for flow control. The check box doesn't enable to click it.

    Most likely because you have CTS and RTS wires connected.

    You may just need to leave CTS and/or RTS disconnected. (Unless you are using them for PTT.)

    Only use these and use software flow control.

    1 - Earth (Ground) <-----> BLACK Wire (GND)
    2 - TxD <-----> YELLOW Wire (RxD)
    3 - RxD <-----> ORANGE Wire (TxD)
