Yes the guys thread that was out there only lasted a few days before it was locked.
I read the whole thread over there just now to see what their problem was... Most was pretty funny. But by the last page things burst into flames pretty fast after the last couple posts. I don't desire to provoke that one. Lots of anger in some of these guys.
I'm 14 and my voice is unmistakably a YLs. lol. I sometimes get a 73 and 88's from a random person on the air, but I don't take it literally or personally. Tbh I don't reply with an 88, I usually say 73 and hope to work you again or something random like that.
Thanks for starting this, tho! I enjoy reading other YLs posts...
Oh, and btw I hear 33 a lot from other YLs on the air? I think it's jes sumthin YLs say to YLs but couldn't find a definite definition anywhere
Any help? Thanks!
When I first got into Ham radio I had gotten 73 and 88 from different people and it never bothered me. My ex OM would always say it to me as he should when we were together but if others said it I never got offended nor did he. To me it was just radio lingo.
Geezer I never tried to copy an address on my phone and paste it. Anyway, there's a poem about 33 that's pretty good. Erika DD
I had to get on the computer, here's the poem off the YLRL.ORG website.. Erika DD
The Birth of 33
Clara had her ticket
She also had a rig
Because she was just startin
It wasn't very big
She slowly tuned the crystal,
And watched the meter drop.
Then tapped the key a couple times
To be sure it wouldn't stop.
Now everything was ready,
She called a short CQ
And received an answer
On thirty-six sixty -two.
They chewed the fat "bout stuff and things.
"bout dresses, work and dates.
They finally called it QRT
The girl sent eighty-eights.
Clara though it might be funny
Whether it be Miss or Mrs.
To end a perfect QSO
By sending "Love and Kisses"
It sounds too sentimental;
Just a little too much "goo"
To be sending "Love and Kisses"
to a girl the same as you.
For an entire week she pondered;
Wouldn't even touch the rig.
She pushed her slide rule by the hour,
Employing "logs" and "trig"
She added and subtracted.
What could the answer be?
To reach a happy medium
Twixt eighty-eight and seventy-three.
Clara finally looked up from her work
All smiles and not forlorn.
Twas July in Nineteen Forty
That thirty-three was born.
There's no real definition
But it's meaning is known well.
It's how a YL says good evening
To another friend YL.
