This morning I was listening on 75 meters and two hams were talking about The Heathkit Company going back into the amateur radio business again, producing kit radios for builders. Does anyone know what the real story is? Or is this just another rumor? I've heard this rumor going around for the past month now.

For me, Heathkits were never "cheap," but they used to be very good (for the most part) and the fun and experience of building them made it worth it.

Elecraft kits aren't cheap, either, and they're selling fine because they're good.

I built tons of Heathkits in the 60s and 70s and the common thread is they all worked, and met expectations. If they can simply do that again, they'll succeed.
