    It looks like someone tried to convert this unit to use the mail box board. I replaced most of the missing ics. Does anyone have a copy of the firmware for this unit.

    The HK-232 is the same as the PK-232. Heathkit obtained permission from Advanced Electronic Applications Inc (AEA) to produce the HK-232 in kit form so the 2 are the same. The firmware chip in the PK-232 should work in the HK-232.

    You should also look on the board for other modification near the rear Radio 1 and Radio 2 pin/sockets as Timewave sells a sound card modification for the PK-232 which also includes the HK-232. Timewave also sells an MBX upgrade kit/mod for HK-232 and PK-232 TNCs that didn't have the MBX chip set. This may be what the previous owner did.

    Once you get your HK-232 working, the PK-232 operator's manual and commands should work with the HK-232. You can download the PK-232 manual at the following link;

    You can buy the whole upgrade from Timewave or even get parts. But a copy of the firmware would be stealing from Timewave, as they own the rights to the firmware.

    Timewave still supports all the 232 units.. you need to get with them and they can make sure you have the right parts. You can get a soundcard interface, USB interface, DSP board and more from them

    Thanks for information. Looks like they are DIY kits. I can't believe they still support these.

    Mitch -

    They still produce and sell the PK-232 series !

    Yes, you can purchase the DIY kit (aka Heathkit / skilled radio amateur) OR have Timewave's bench technicians add the parts and checkout.

    PK-232 Upgrade Guide

    Timewave/AEA/Heath Upgrade options

    When you look at DRSI, Kantronics, MFJ, Timewave/AEA/Heath, and PacComm --
    Timewave is the BEST in support (North America) for the hardware based TNCs and multi-mode controllers.
    IF Gwyn Reedy, W1BEL(sk) was still running PacComm (passed away December 2006) and active in TAPR --
    I think he would be supporting the earlier products as well (or better) than Timewave.
