I just got the new Retevis RT23 handheld radio.



This is the newcomer in the cross band repeater handheld radio marker. If there is such a thing, anyway.

Initially this would appear to be a bait and switch. The used car salesman mindset has infiltrated the ranks of Ham radio! We’re doomed! J

 

I am sorry, why do you think this is "bait and switch"?

 

I assume it is because the radio is not full duplex.

 

Well, I have changed the blog post and video descriptions, when I first figured the radio was not full-duplex. As a matter of fact, I am probably the first person that has stated this (at least online). Unfortunately, QRZ forums do not allow editing of posts after a certain period.

I am still waiting a response from AC8KW though.

It can be annoying not being able to change the title of a post.

The other thing I found is this link does not work anymore.

But it looks like this radio can RX on one band while TXing on another. Either 2m and 70cm or 70cm and 2m. So that would be full duplex.

It has a cross-band repeater capability, yes. However, without cross-band repeater active, when you transmit on one side, it does not receive on the other. It can receive on both at the same time, hence the dual-receive.

 

Oh, ok. Well, that's a shame, it could have been good.

 

Yes, it would. I thought id would do that in the first place, hence the erroneous "full-duplex" report.
