    Hey, y'all...

I'm running a MacBook pro with OS 10.6. I've done searches out there for ham radio mac software... a lot of what comes up is for older mac OS's. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions out there on an decent software for us mac users (preferably free). I am primarily interested in logging, satellite tracking, etc. I really don't want to install XP on this computer since... XP is nothing but problems.

I recently acquired a TS-2000 and will be getting on HF soon. Thanks!

    Hi Will,

I'm also using a mac! For logging I use RUMLog. You can get it here: http://www.dl2rum.de/rumsoft/RUMLog.html. As for sat tracking theres not much to choose from - free or otherwise. For free I would look at gpredict here: http://gpredict.oz9aec.net Its been around forever and will compile on the mac or you can use macports to get it. For rig control take a look at grig here: http://groundstation.sourceforge.net/grig

Both of these programs will require the x-windows system to be installed on your mac. Yes it kind of a pain but it works and it gives you other options as well. If its not installed, its on the OS install disks I believe.

If you can spare $for software, Dog Park Software has some of the best available for the mac. MacDoppler is one of the best sat tracking programs around and MacLoggerDX is wonderful. They do everything and look amazing. If you have any questions on setting up your station to work with your mac, feel free to give me a shout. jrsphoto@gmail.com

Get a IBM Intel Win computer and use all the good software. I have 3 computers all running Win7 doing nothing but radio related software for 3 different radios using different antennas and modes.

    Alright, thanks, guys.

I have a spare PC lying around at home. I guess I will have to resurrect it if I want the full gamete, but, John, thank you very much for the suggestions.

I wish I knew how to write programs!

I have nothing but Mac and Linux at home. Yeah, I'm a geek....

I use VMWare Fusion with Windows XP running inside for all manner of PC-only software. RT-systems VX 8R programming SW, dive computer interface, etc. If this didn't work for me I would get a cheap Netbook. I think I've seen them new around $300 or less at Costco....
