Has anybody bothered to check if WSJT-X v.2 is compatible with the required exchange?

Don't ask me to do it. After trying FT8 in the RU, FT8 contesting is not for me.

Using the free text box for every QSO would be a pain in the derriere.

You don't have to use the free text box. Read the users manual.

    FT8 is not fully automated.

It is supported then, and the contest organizers are anti-FT8?:D

No need to be rude. Telling a ham to read is uncalled for.:confused:o_O

    I don't use WSJT-X, I'm a JTDX 'fanboy', as another Zedder labelled me.

Could JS8Call be used as well?

WSJT-X isn't. But FT8 very easily can be.

My issue with FT8 is our use of it....or, to those outside of ham radio, the over-use of FT8 being interpreted as an ham-abandonment of precious spectrum that can, and in their opinion will, be used for other purposes.

There is a HUGE OPPORTUNITY, however, that FT8 affords: it allows an inexpensive entry (low power and modest antennas) into HF for TECHS --IF-- we facilitate that.

Most Techs come into ham radio under public safety, with HT's, on 2m. That's it. But many of them WANT to work DX on HF, don't know how to approach it; don't want or can't put up fancy antennas; can't or won't use QRO. There are spectrum allocation issues also. We need to remove any impediments.

FT8 allows all of these and is a great incentive to then go further.

If you want to 'save' ham radio, use the tools you have.

    Very well stated!

Let our computers 'TALK' to their computers, and 'AUTOMATE' their entry into the hobby. I want to be 'BORED' seeing the bands occupied. 'CHALLENGE' them to try other modes as well. Help them become 'True Blue DXers' eventually, and acquire skills that would be 'REMOTELY' possible otherwise.

It's the RF part that matters, always remember that.

You are probably refering to me? Read your post .. you named yourself "fanboy" .. I just confirmed it, QSL QSL :D Hope to meet you on the air sometimes soon. I'm fairly active with WSJT-X, since making my first FT8 contact december 6. It works great, today done a total 2164 FT8 QSO's :)

Sorry to rain on your parade, but there are much kinder people out there that called me a 'fanboy' before you. Another one also called me a 'drumbeater' for FT8.:D
