    I wouldn't bother adding the switch, either. It's not like the heaters wear out.

    You'd save about 12W or something (on your electric bill) by switching them off. Here where I am that would save a walloping one dollar a year or something...

    I have heard that it does reduce the lifespan (emmision reduction) of the tube, if long periods of SWL are desired; on the sweep-tubes. I do not know about the 6146 valves (aftermarket upgrade).

    If you really want to do this.......
    simply pull the accessery plug apart...
    remove the jumper
    install two fourteen gauge wires
    Run them to a four amp switch mounted in a radio shack minibox....
    You are done...

    How about just pulling out the finals if you aren't planning on using the transmit section?
