Boy.. It sounds like the CB truck stop channel? Meanwhile ole channel 19 is dead, dead?. Without the code requirement and even at 5 wpm it is a weekend deal for many? No months and months of dedication and experience to get code proficiency up? Will it continue to just be -Big CB- or will they actually be able to overcome it or will it overcome them. They had dedicated observers in CB also? When it got to be too big a struggle they just gave up on CB and call it ''Self Regulated''? Ham radio is becoming more as ''Just a Hobby'' instead of the Amateuer Radio Service where we try to gain proficiency to be ready if needed..

You may be correct Charles- California has cut ties to Amateur radio emcomm groups.
If I may include a video from K6UDA:

Why make people learn something that 90% of them (arbitrary number, but close to accurate I'd wager) won't ever use?

I'm not convinced knowing code equals a more dedicated ham.
Anyone who wants the experience of CW will learn it, license requirement or not.
Versus those that don't care for the mode, and forget it as soon as the test is over.

Probably because ham radio isn't as relevant in an emergency as it might have once been. "When all else fails" is becoming less and less necessary as technology and backup services become better. Besides, all the emergency services have their own radio, and they're actually trained to handle an emergency.

If you really want to be a potential value, join ARES/RACES/CERT and the likes. Then at least (ideally) you'll know how to fill out a form and pass traffic.

People whining about how things used to be would better serve themselves and others by putting that energy into being better prepared themselves.

He's not correct and this was debunked in several other threads. It was one repeater.

Fake newS. Not the whole story.
The truth is that Hal k6dpz
Who was fined , had been a long time member of this repeater group and was a valuable asset to the club in the technical end. He was the guy who had his plane taken from his driveway and lost his house by the town.
He never jammed but was provoked by the directors of the repeater many times and caused him to lose his composure. Hal is now in a hospice and lost everything. His houses his dog his vast amateur radio collection and plane not to mention his health.

The "real goon" from 3.840 is also on 7.255 daily, running others OFF the frequency. His appeal with the full Commission is, THANKFULLY, on the short end of the stick. See the full FCC docket on WT 08-20 here, and especially read the installments by Michael LaBond/AA8KB, who is one of the Net Control stations for the WARFA Net, as he nails the coffin shut on this 12+ year long disaster:,DESC

FEAR NOT! Riley Hollingsworth is back in the saddle with the new VM program. Things ARE happening - the miscreants just don't know it yet!

Wait just a minute there Chip. Whatever happened to "PRIVATE PROPERTY?" Does it no longer exist in Nassau County, New York? What about Guretzsky's rights? Socially acceptable? Are you a social justice warrior? Wow.
