    DOUG LOUGHMILLER, “W5BL”, 60, of McKinney, took his final flight and crossed the horizon into life eternal on Friday July 22, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 27, 2016 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with Rev. Rob Spencer officiating. Interment rites will follow the service in the committal chapel of Evergreen Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Douglas Alden Loughmiller was born on March 28, 1956 in New Albany, Indiana, to Robert and Renie Lindley Loughmiller. He was a graduate of Southport High School, Indianapolis, Indiana.

    Doug worked worked in the Satellite Communications Department at the University of Surrey, in England, as a payload supervisor. This provided him with many travel opportunities throughout Europe as well as Russia, China and South America. He then pursued a successful career in the electronic component industry, working for Arrow Electronics, Future Electronics/FAI and finally RAM Electronic Sales, where he specialized in highly technical consultative selling.

    In 2007 he received the honor of “Instructor of the Year” award from the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), of which he was a Life Member. He was also a member and former President of AMSAT Corp., a volunteer educational organization with an interest in building, launching, and operating satellites carrying ham radio. He was co-founder of the “ARBONET - Amateur Radio Balloons Over North East Texas” organization and member of several ham radio clubs throughout North Texas.
