    Somewhat related - anyone know the story why David Ferehty has a D104 on his set desk?

    They're just props --- something to "dress the set".
    Like the bookshelves, world globes, flowers, and other nick-nacks they you'll see in the background -- which often is just a "Green Screen" image, not even a real set.
    No particular reason they're D-104's ... except perhaps that they "look olde timie" or that the prop dept. happened to have one laying around. ;)

    You mean there really isn't a window behind him so we can see all those local buildings? I have noticed that there never seems to be any rainy weather "outside".

    To most of the general public who even noticed the out-of-focus mic in that video clip, if they recognised it at all, the D-104 probably invoked an image of CB more than of ham radio.
