There are still mysteries left to be solved and new plants and animals to discover.

Carnivorous Swamp Beast Discovered In Madagascar

crudmonkey writes "Researchers have identified a previously unknown species of carnivore lurking in one of the world's most endangered lakes. Durrell's vontsira, named in honor of the late conservationist and writer Gerald Durrell, was first photographed swimming in Madagascar's Lake Alaotra in 2004. Subsequent surveys confirmed the mongoose-like creature was indeed a new species. Durrell's vontsira is the first new carnivorous mammal discovered in Madagascar in 24 years. Little is known about the species, which is roughly the size of a cat."

I don't think this little guy would make such a good house pet. Look at those teeth. He could open his own wet cat food. :)

I wonder if that thing eats black widow spiders.
If it does I know someone who might be in the market for a new pet, if it he can keep it from eating the cats and Dangerous Pit Bulls.

    That's an ugly looking thing.

I'd put it back in the swamp and forget I ever saw it.

An amazing place is Madagascar Island. There are animals on the island which don't exist on the mainland and these animals have been living there undiscovered for millions of years. When the island was separated from the mainland it developed its own flora and fauna and these naturologists are still finding new animals and insects in New Guinea because the island is impenetrable for men to enter.

WH beat me to the squirrel comment! Maybe it was one of its relatives that ate through the neutral connection between the pole transformer and my house.
