    Have you installed the drivers from Icom on the Laptop so it can see the radio?

    Instructions are in the Icom users manual and on their website.

    There is no need for the MFJ device. HRD can access the radio via the USB port. Install the USB drivers (linked below), connect the radio, after Windows detects and loads the radio driver check Windows Device Manager for the COM Port Windows assigned to the radio. In HRD select the radio, COM Port, the radios' hex address, and baud rate (set both the radios' CI-V Baud Rate in Set Mode, and HRD to 19200).

    thks all for info, but the icom 7200 has no comport on back of radio, only civ port, and their is no menu available for port or port settings, the manual says it needs external sound card to do digital other than psk and cw

    Plug a USB cable into the back of the radio, and the other end into your computer and you'll have a COM Port (as long as you have the drivers loaded otherwise Windows will dump it in the Others section of Device Manager).

    USB = Universal Serial Bus

    RS-232 ports are being replaced with USB ports on newer radios.
