Many of us do feel it was Derogatory to call us "Old Farts" like you did, we're the only group in America that's not protected by some equal rights movement BUT on QRZ we are..

    So Read the
    QRZ Code
    Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:

    • Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person.
    • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.

I like this idea. amateur = aficionado, if you pay attention to the international community. Digital modes are taking the air by storm. We should encourage the enthusiasm.

Amazing how you can speak for many others!

"Old farts" is like OM. More a term of endearment than an insult, but take it as you please.

Your 'Zed code quote really is a stretch there OM. Which part did I violate? Nah, never-mind, I don't care what you think.

I'm in my 50s, and even call myself an old-fart.

Real insults are like porn. You'll know it when you see it.

    ^ Bingo.

The new rules are meaningless as written.

Fortunately, this time their new rule additions change essentially nothing.

The realm of automated contacts rather it be whispernet f, or ft4, or whatever the latest and greatest the iteration is functional equivalent to benchrest shooting. You're not necessarily determining operator operating skill you're determining technical qualifications of his station. I'm certain there's a place for this somewhere in the hierarchy of contest. perhaps we need a new era of digital-only contesting to supplement all the other contest that we have every weekend. It seems that a inclined ham radio operator can find at least three or four contest in any given weekend to take part in. Why not add automated digital contacts to those contests options. I do however support not counting those contacts for dxcc. I'll get off my soapbox now 73 to all N0NZG

PS... For those that don't know what benchrest shooting is. That to be loosely called a sport is essentially the measurement of the technical qualifications of a gunsmith to build a rifle that will consistently shoot a group of bullets to the smallest overall spread between all of them. There is a relatively small amount of shooting prowess required, but the main emphasis is on the technical qualification of the entire shooting system, that encompasses the rifle, ammunition, optical sights, the shooter and his ability to interpret things like wind atmospheric density bullet drop in shot placement. I would say in my humble opinion that it's probably about 20% skill as a shooter in about 80% skill as a gunsmith.

I cycle many miles a week, seldom drink ,etc. Still trying to get the farting under control though! LOL The number of guys and gals younger than me that I've seen with type II diabetes is scary. I just turned a half century last year.

Being a misanthrope has it's advantages... You don't have to talk to sweaty, smelly, obese and cholesterol ridden fat disgusters of all ages! They don't talk to me and I don't talk to them, it's mutually beneficial. ;)

No one here takes 'old farts' as a term of endearment.

    Consider yourself so corrected.

Ironic of course, given that daily niacin, raw carrots, brewers's yeast, Vitamin C, and so on would reverse the symptoms but not the willful cause:)

Guinesss is good fer yez ;-)

How is limiting the degree of automation permitted (the intent of the rule change) going to ruin it for all?

You are into the tech... I am into USING the tech. You are a computer operator, that is fair enough. I prefer to be a radio operator.

SOMEDAY AI WILL ADVANCE FAR ENOUGH THAT YOUR HOUSEHOLD ROBOT WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE PHONE 5 BAND DXCC FOR YOU. SHOULD THAT BE ALLOWED? I THINK NOT.

THOSE WHO CAN'T SEE THAT AUTO CONTACTS, HOWEVER YOU DEFINE THEM, DUMB DOWN THE STANDARDS AND MAKE THINGS EXPONENTIALLY EASIER ARE NOT BEING HONEST.

FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T SEE THAT A CW MACRO AND AN AUTOMATED CONTACT ARE DIFFERENT, THEY ARE.

THAT'S WHY I CARE IF PEOPLE AUTO-POPULATE THEIR LOGS.
