AMPRNet has sold 25% of the 44.0.0.0/8 IPv4 address space to Amazon. The address range is 44.192.0.0/10 or 44.192.0.0 to 44.255.255.255. That's 4,194,304 addresses.

Shame, but we can live with it.
Not much AMPR going on here now.

Haven't used what I had assigned with my previous callsign in nearly 25 years. This is not surprising news.

Even with 12 million IP address left in the pool that is a huge number. Besides its not like amateur radio mesh networks have ballooned to gigantic proportions where we need all of those IP's anyway. Secondly if we ever do get around to blanketing the world with mesh networks, we'd probably need to move on to IP6 address schemes. Hopefully the money gets used in a productive way to benefit our youth in STEM education.

    From the link:

What are you going to do with the money?

Our plan is to establish a program of grants and scholarships that
will serve to promote the art and science of digital communications
    including Amateur Radio.

The estimated selling price is $50M.

I was just thinking that the best way to get kids interested in ham radio is to offer more scholarships.

Once you wrap your head around IPv6, it makes a lot more sense, particularly for amateur mesh networks.

Interestingly, the Reddit amateur radio sub has its hair on fire (accusations of theft, threats of lawsuits, etc.) over this, while Teh Zed's discussion is pretty calm. I find that unusual, and hope it continues.

Whoa! That $ figure is nearly DOUBLE total cash & investment assets of the ARRL!

This thread deserves to be on the QRZ News.

I agree. It's a time-tested thing....we just need to do it on a local basis too. Could give some new focus to local ham clubs.
