Relay from the web.... My great friend and ham radio mentor John ON4UN has passed away. Please find below a mail from his daughter Marleen, addressed to the ham community. Kindly forward this mail to friends of John who might not be subscribed to reflectors nor news bulletins, thank you. Mark - on4ww. ps: as reflectors cannot receive attachments nor photos. a link is available for Marleen's mail with extra photo at http://www.on4ww.be/ON4UN_SK.pdf Dear amateur radio friends It is with sadness, but also gratitude and pride, I have to let you know my father John ON4UN, has become silent key. John's health has steadily deteriorated throughout the year, but in the last few weeks he was home with us where he peacefully passed away yesterday November 9. Ham Radio, and especially Low Band DX-ing, were my father's lifelong passion and always had a strong presence in our house. Sometimes literally, when many of you paid us a visit or a group of DX'ers came over for a weekend of contesting. At other times in the background, when my dad was working on a project or experimenting with new equipment or antennas. Though I don't have a call-sign, I very much feel part of the big radio family and always will. I am very proud of everything my father has accomplished together with you, and I am grateful to the many of you who have given him so much joy over the years. We will miss him dearly, but we take comfort looking back on the beautiful life he lived as a member of the wonderful Ham Radio community. We are planning a digital farewell ceremony on Saturday Nov 21st and will keep you updated on practicalities. If you would like to send us a message please mail to ON4UN.SK@gmail.com - John's old e-mail account is not in use anymore. In the meantime, you can pay him a visit at QRZ.com where he always kept his resume up to date. Marleen Devoldere -- Thanks 73 Jim W7RY
I am very saddened to hear this. What a great man and an inspiration to so many. May he Rest in Peace. 73 dr John SK . .
His Low Band DXing handbook is a must read, has a place on my bookshelf.....big loss to the amateur world...! 73
I am very sad to read that. 2 weeks ago i read his qrz page and checked his 160/80 meters scores. Today when checked dx-world the first article was that ON4UN passed away. Amateur radio comunity lost a very good ham.
Very sad news and such a great loss for his family and the ham radio community. I first met him on 15 meters in 2013 and had many contacts with him since....I will always remember is distinguished voice....Godspeed John JERRY, N8YN
I had many contacts with John. He gave me contacts for my first ON on 40 and 75. His book on Low Band DXing helped me immensely as I was able to eventually achieve DXCC + on 40 and 75 RIP Sir
May God bless him....he was and still is my inspiration for 160M and his book has been my guide for years.
Very sorry to hear. I bought all of his Low Band DXing books over the many years and worked him many times. He was a real gentleman on the air at all times. I'll miss his very recognizable voice and tremendous knowledge.
