The ARRL is reporting that both of the February 2021 Orlando events will be delayed one year, until February 2022. HamCation is apparently considering a QSO party and online presentations in February 2021. http://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-national-convention-and-orlando-hamcation-postponed-to-february-2022
Well that sucks... and I had planned on spending some time and money there this year. 73 to ya... KN4OTS
I totally understand why this had to be done and what you guys have gone through. Best wishes for an awesome 2021!
Sorry but it's getting ridiculous. I get that most of the ham population is in the zone for covid but so is any other flu. Anyways it's supposed to be about attracting new blood.
Well, if the Elite who 'know what's best' think its all this bad, maybe the thing(you know man, the thing) to be is buy two years of MREs, dig a drip hole(with an antenna on top) and bury yourself in and wait for the Zombie Apocalypse ......just sayin'
Yes, it has been almost a year of something like swimming through silly putty. Told my grandchildren they'd have something to tell their grandchildren about living through these days. Fortunately nothing lasts forever and while the world will change we'll go on. (But this still stinks.) At least ham radio is something we can enjoy and meet people with from home.
2020: The Year of Stupid. Biologically, COVID could have been controlled and dissipated by July, and we should all be getting our vac's NOW. That's what was possible.... Astra Zeneca is sitting on a half a BILLION doses...not THEIR fault.
I also agree with Chip. So many forces are at play here and are using this epidemic to their own advantage. Maybe someone will come up with a hamfest next year that can be attended by those of us who want to get out of the "rabbit hole" for a change. By the way, we had a hamfest in Sevierville, Tennessee this year! Yes, that's right, in September 2020! 73, John WB4YAL
The Hamcation guys do a great job. I am sure the last thing they wanted was to 'close down' 2021. As you gathered, my point is that we have failed ourselves such that the fallout is outrageous, extended, and just plain dumb. MO, yours may differ
My point is that even if here is NO Dayton Ham fest, and NO Orlando ham fest, other local venues need to continue to allow hams to gather (with reasonable accommodation and concern for safety) and enjoy ham radio comradery. We can't just refuse to meet with other hams EVER AGAIN!
