I was honored to have operated from KA6LMS the Last Man Standing television set on FT8 Fox & Hound Mode on 02/11/2020. It was a great opportunity and I had alot of fun doing it!
Tried work em bunch from Iowa, but their signal is always very modest, only wish the studio would allow for a much better effective outdoor antenna system, so “LMS”, could rule the bands like Tim’s know for on all of his shows ♂️ They always explain they are running simple indoor rotatable dipole, but we all know if they had a simple low cost tribander beam on 20/15/10 They would rock 20m’s And a nice high elevated outdoor 40/80m dipole they could Kill it on all bands ..!!!
I have Tim's real call sign on my Echo-Link in case he ever get's on there. Lot's of fun .... .. 73 / from Portage, Ohio.
For those not familiar with it, look up on QRZ Tim's fictional call sign (he has a real one too). That's KA0XTT. (Ex-Tim Taylor or Ex-Tool Time.) Incidentally you can see in the background of this video some of the awards earned by his character.
I inquired about operating from there and was basically told only "celebrity" amateur radio operators get invited. So if anyone is interested in operating that station you need to start up your own YouTube channel and get as many subscribers as you can.
Ok... They do SSB and CW activations at KA6LMS. I wanted to try something new to handle what I knew was going to be a pileup in the hour I operated. I was not disapointed I raked in a goodly number of "contacts"
Sounds like with their RFI problems FT8 is a very good option. I have never used it (or any other digital modes) but they all have their place in ham radio.
