What is the strangest thing you've ever used as an antenna? What about a wire fence, or a flag-pole, perhaps a train-track, a bridge or a football stadium. This week I look at what's to gain from trying to tune up a non-traditional antenna. Experimentation at its best. Foundations of Amateur Radio is a weekly podcast about anything ham radio and can be downloaded from http://podcasts.itmaze.com.au/ and found on iTunes by searching for VK6FLAB. Thank you for your kind emails and donations, unexpected, fun and enlightning, keep 'm coming. Onno VK6FLAB
Have a gander at my QRZ page, I have loaded up way too many unconventional antennas! Funny thing, I've done fairly well with all of them! https://www.qrz.com/db/K2MIJ
Ke7emu Roger Several years ago I was working at about 9500 ft el. It was winter an d very cold. I had deployed about 800 ft of welding cable working on structure in big cottonwood canyon in Utah. I had to put my circuit out in snow shoes. At the end of day decided to load it up. I had 4 ot to 3 ot to 2 ot. I do that for long circuits. Boy, the response was way cool.about 200 ft to ground, about 600 ft to stinger. Dentron tuner to tune.
