So today I set out to install the IC7100 in my 2014 F150. I took inspiration from http://ab4bj.com/wordpress/2013/07/mobile-installation-of-the-icom-ic-7100/ Here are the pics. A little piece of plexiglass, a 1/4" screw and voila. $3 into the mount.
Well, I hope you didn't install the main chassis they way he did! The 7100 gets rather hot! If you mount the chassis without its mounting bracket, air cannot flow around the chassis. Sooner or later, it will get too hot with predictable results. My only comment about mounting the head where it is? While you can use the microphone for most frequency excursions, it requires that you have to stretch to reach for the VFO knob. Think distraction.
Thanks for the info. I mounted it under the back seat. It has plenty of room around it, but I did not mount it up off the carpet, so I will definitely look into doing that to keep it cool. Thankfully its not permanent. It is just a piece of plexy sitting on that. If they install because a major pain I can move it. I don't do much other than 2m right now on the road, but I want to be able to take a portable antenna with me up north and do some HF. Again thanks for the feedback. It helps.
