Dakar to N'Djamena, Chad is 2,174 miles in just under 15 hours - avg speed = 144 mph !!
He should sleep well tonight !!

Tomorrow N'Djamena to Khartoum, Sudan only 1,194 miles :) (piece of cake after today !!)

Must be an expensive trip. Anyone know what kind of MPG such a plane gets?

I was able to locate this info from Mooney:
The Mooney M20K, both the "231" and the later "252" model, are probably the most efficient production aircraft ever made. The Mooney is capable of over 20 miles-per-gallon (8.5 km/L or 11.75L per 100km).
Brian stated he was using about 7.7 gph

Tnx, some info from Google put it at about that number.

Not knowing what I am doing (normal) I come up with a trip gas cost of $6-10k.

Here's some interesting information that KQ6XA/Bonnie posted about the costs for the flight...

The highest freq in his ALE channel scan is 21432.5 kHz.
He has ALE, which provides something similar to that, transmitting an hourly station ID, on every channel he is using (when he manually enables it).
It is easy to copy him on ALE, and just about anyone that can copy his ALE signal can link (like selcall) with him on ALE for a voice QSO.
