Greetings everyone.

I have a problem with a Yaesu FT-101E that I recently purchased.

This radio operates fine on all bands with full output power only there is one annoying problem:

There is no LSB! The radio will not receive or transmit on LSB. Works fine on USB, AM, CW and tune. I can see the meter moving when a signal is receive in LSB, but I can only hear something if I crank the AF all the way up. Even then it's hard to make out.

I also have a slight hum on receive. It does not go out over the air but before I tend to that, I would really like to get the rig working on LSB as I regularly talk to the local crew on 80m and do DX work on 40m. Although I've been having fun with the radio lately on 20m and made some great contacts to mainland USA.

Are there any guru's on this board who can help me? Where should I look? What should I test? Or is there maybe some sort of adjustment?

Or if someone can show me a good yahoo group or perhaps an enthusiast website that would also be great. I have already tried registering on fox tango but they have this annoying graphic text you have to type in to register and I can't read it!

My radio seems to receiving fine now but would like to do an alignment. Looking around on the web shows some guys do not worry about a signal generator. They go thru the tune up procedure and find a broadcast signal and go on that. Is it ok to use this method?

I have aligned several kenwood hybrids via the marker signal so I'm use to the meter/peak method.

thanks Brian

In preperation to sell these items I have completely go through each of the units and recapped them and check every resistor and aligned them to spec. Now once they are painted I will be selling them so it is important to me that they be as close to original as possible color wise. I have taken both the HT-40, SX-110 and HA-5 VFO down to bared metal and have applied 3-coats of self leveling primer so the cabinets are ready for the final paint. What I need to know is if anyone has any has found a canned spray paint that is very close to the original color used by Hallicrafters. I don't think it is the same color as Collins radio used, but I may be wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

A friend picked up this Bird at a hamfest and it is whacked. Does anyone have detail on the detector circuit? I found the manual on line, but it doesn't list any of the detector components. It just shows a box marked "detector". Someone has been inside as evidenced by the ugly solder blobs. There looks to be a carbon comp resistor blown away - looks like the bands visable would indicate 36 something (orange, blue....rest is missing). Toast or repairable?
