As part of Hurricane Expo, 26 August 2006, Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester ARESŪ will operate a Special Event Station, using generator power and temporary antennas, with the Call Sign: W4H. The station will operate on 80-10M bands from 13:00Z to 21:00Z.
Stations contacted will receive a commemorative QSL card.
New Home Charleston and WCBD News 2 have partnered to present the Hurricane Expo which will be held at the Gaillard Auditorium, in downtown Charleston, SC, as part of the Custom Home & Remodel Show.
The all-day expo is to inform Charleston area citizens on how they can protect themselves before, during and after a hurricane. The expo will feature a hurricane simulator and a demonstration area which will include a live demonstration of Amateur Radio. In addition, WCBD News 2 Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler will broadcast his weather live from the Expo.
Additional exhibits from the Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness Department and Sheriff Office are planned. Dorchester County is planning to bring their 35' Communications trailer.
Over 45 local, state and federal agencies and organizations are expected to participate.
The Expo will be a great opportunity for the public to experience Amateur Radio and it's capabilities in times of disaster.
