View Full Version : What is it with eBay sellers nowadays?

I don't understand why so many eBay sellers don't bother to answer questions about whatever it is they are selling. It makes no sense at all because people who ask questions tend to want to buy, they just need a little help. I guess maybe they like having their stuff sit for months at a time.

If it was me I would send one e-mail to the dude with your question (s).
Give him 24 hours to answer ( a full day )
If no answer, send # 2 e-mail, remind him of #1 e-mail and advise him/her that " if you dont care anough about ME to answer my questions, then I am not interested in your product ".
THAt lets the seller know 2 things --
1) youo are interested and have questions
2) you have money to spend
If the seller does not answer your #2 e - mail, it lets you know that he does not really want YOUR money and that he is not worth YOUR time to even look at the product.
Me ? I dont mess with ebay except to look at old / antique radio equipment I aint seen before, and the more I look,. the less I see that I aint seen before...so the less time I spend there.

Yeah in another few hours he's going to get a second email. It is a low dollar item but I'd sure like to buy it because it is kind of unique.
Back when we sold on eBay we always tried to take care of stuff like this right away so I guess I tend to expect the same from sellers now.

on another part of e-bay ---
I hear e-bay used as a reference a lot in used equipment pricing discussions...both IN PERSON / internet / on the amateur frequencies.
If "john doe " says to me ( or any one ) " I can get { this amount of money } for this item on e-bay "...I just tell them back " well, why aint you sold it yet " ?
Then they usually stammer, half smile, and sometimes try to change the subject.
or
I could ( you can too ) say " well, this aint ebay. I am offering you { this amount of money } right now. Deal or no deal. " ?? !!
About half the time I get to buy it and half the time I dont so it is a 50/50 situation in most cases.

Yup I've seen the same thing a million times. I just talked to a guy the other day who wanted $20 for a $5 item because "that's what they sell for on eBay." No, that is what one sold for on eBay and that seller was lucky enough to find 2 morons to bid against each other. Of course he didn't mention the dozens that never sell at all.

Some of the sellers actually have a life and can't check their email 24/7 .
I try to answer questions in a timely fashion , but I have found that quite a few possible bidders are just wasting my time when I am selling something .
Give them some time and if they don't reply ....don't bid . http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Good luck , and check the sellers feedback .....It tells you a lot . http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
Just another indication of the growing lack of concern and care for the consumer, and even going further, your fellow man! We have talked about this on other threads, the "steep and slippery slope" that this country seems to be sliding down.
Very similar to the EBay experience is going to a hamfest and seeing someone selling junk for waaaaay over its value, simply because he is all too willing to profiteer from a "seller's market". There seems to be a "feeding frenzy" that often overtakes logical thinking.
Don't jump in on such things. If you wait long enough, you will find a similar item popping up in the future at a price that is far more reasonable.
I just recently bought an audio mixer that one guy was trying to sell for nearly $100.00 on a "second chance auction" from another seller, for only $15.00 ! That bid, and the S&H came to less than a $25 total investment for something that was virtually new and in the original packing material! Good deals can be found on EBay, you just have to know when to act !

I would tend to agree with you.

I get tired of the stupid questions. Selling a 220 H/T and a non-ham asks how far I can talk on the walkie talkie without a repeater.
I was selling a rotor control box and the peanut gallery asks what good it is without the rotor.
Stupid questions all the time.
Another thing, stuff isn't selling very well anymore- and not for as much as it used to.
I won't be printing my price guide in the future any longer either.

Nice thing about Ebay is that you can put something up for sale and go on vacation for a few days.
Odds are the seller is out of town for a day or two or they are not complete geeks like the rest of us and only check their email a couple times a week.
The reasone folks will often try and sell something via classifieds or such before going Ebay is that the classified is faster. If I can sell something to you right now I would do it rather than waiting a week for Ebay.
Will get the same money for it either way, just one is faster and being the lazy things humans are, that is the first choice.
