A British man was indicted Wednesday on charges he helped run terrorism fundraising Web sites, set up terrorists with temporary housing in England and possessed a classified U.S. Navy document revealing troop movements. Syed Talha Ahsan was arrested at his home in London, England, on a federal indictment in Connecticut charging him with conspiracy to support terrorists and conspiracy to kill or injure people abroad.
U.S. prosecutors said Ahsan helped terrorists find temporary residence in London and shuttled them into Afghanistan and Chechnya to participate in "jihad."
Maybe I'm missing something, but what jurisdiction does the US have over the political activities of a man in England allegedly aiding terrorists in Afghanistan and Chechnya?
Seems to me that this is setting a dangerous international precendent - allowing the government of a country to indict and extradite someone living outside the country for activity it disapproves of, when that person never set foot in the country and the alleged offence was not even targeted at the country filing the charges.
What's next... Will China be extraditing Americans living in San Fransico or Chicago to stand trial in Beijing because they got on line with their computer and set up a website critical of the Chinese government, and/or solicited funds to be sent to the aid of the Independence Party in Taiwan?

I think an Extradition treaty is at work here.
Not a Possie. Remember that the British government is 'with us' not 'against us'.

Add to this the "Natwest Two", extradited to America via an extradition treaty not yet ratified in the USA, charged with a fraud alleged to have taken place in London to the disadvantage of their employers, a British company, and which the said company has no intention of pressing charges over.
How soon before we have to petition Washington for permission to sneeze?

Seems the United States is almost alone in fighting terror. Just like Israel, nothing the USA does is right, we're always wrong. Same is true with Israel. They have an act of war against them, and those that purpetrated the act are the "good guys" in the eyes of some in the world?
I would submit, if the USA pulled back to it's borders it would signal to the world's terrorists that every other country is free for the taking. Beheadings and torture would be the normal occurance in the daily life's of those "taken over" by the radical Mullas of Islam. Then and only then would all those crying that the USA is to invasive in it's attempt to fight terror and injustice would to soon be crying for the USA's help.
Would any other country like the UK, France, Germany,Switzerland, etc etc rather be under the control of radical muslim clerics? Women draped in garb that demeans them to a postion lower than dirt? No rights for anyone, only the right to have your head removed without pain meds with a dull knife?
Without the USA at this point in time those like Iran, Syria and North Korea would be setting up shop in Washington tommorrow. And if Kim Jong thinks joining them so the clerics wouldn't bother him, he's wrong, his head would be severed also.
Arabs have been fighting and killing amonst themselves for eons, now, more radical views of how some mullahs and clerics want to have WORLD DOMINATION and are trying to spread this form of terrorist rule throughout the world.
I say to those ticked off at the United States, go live under those countries that are ruled by clerics such as these, or better yet, take your entire families there, mom, grandmom, son's and daughters, then see if you can survive a month in thier country without having your daughter or wife shot in the head for showing her face, or the husband beheaded for insulting them or their religion.
This is a fight that must include everyone in what's left of the free world. who really wants world domination? It sure isn't the United States
Stop the griping! and join the fight against terrorism
Your either for Freedom and justice for the world's population, or your for rule by terrorist clerics and mullahs, which do you choose?

Unlimited police power? No, we're limited by the amount of funding the Federal government has, and as much as they can squeeze out of the local citizenry.
I'm not too happy with us seeming to be the worlds police force since we have plenty of our own issues that the money could be applied to, but remember, the direction the country takes is supposedly because of the people we elect to have it take that direction.
If you don't like the direction its going, its time to change who is in there. That, or a total coup of the existing government is the only way change in policy will occur.
If you read the link, in the original post, you will find this individual is charged with operating terrorist web sites in CONNECTICUT,NEVADA, Britian, Ireland and Malaysia.
Of course the US has jurisdiction in Connecticut and Nevada and extradition treaties with other nations. Where is the news here???

My concern is how is this clown in posession of classified documents?
Is our military *still* sticking Windows computers with classified and sensitive information on the internet? We're about to get our tailfeathers handed to us.

From the original link, it is not clear if he actually set up the websites in CT and NV. I'm not sure how he would have done that from England, but since I have never attempted to set up a website anywhere, there is a lot about the technology I don't know.
Or does it simply mean that he set up the website in England, where, just like this message board, it can be viewed anywhere in the world, including CT and NV?
I recall a similar case where the French gov't tried to press charges against e-Bay because of Nazi memorabilia that appeared in one of the auctions, because in France it is illegal to traffic in Nazi memorabilia. This was a regular e-Bay auction item, and had nothing in particular to do with France.
I know the web is international by its very nature, but does that mean that every message posted, and every website, is subject to the internal laws of every country where the web page can be viewed?
But the facts seem clear that this person never set foot in the US, and his alleged illegal activities were committed using a computer on British soil and targeted entirely to countries outside the USA, so wouldn't it be up to British authorities to prosecute?
This is in no way meant to condone or support the guy's alleged terrorist activity. I am concerned when any foreign country assumes jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed beyond its borders. How long before Americans will be subjected to stand trial in other countries for "crimes" committed on US soil, perhaps (as in the French e-Bay case) for activities that are perfectly legal in this country?
Would US authorities have the jurisdiction, for example, to prosecute an 18-years-old for crossing the border and going to a Canadian bar and having a beer, when the legal drinking age in the Canadian town is 18, but in the US it is 21?

You can't rely on a federal prosecutor's press release for the actual truth behind allegations. Too often, there is no fire behind the smoke.
Case in point: Brandon Mayfield, the Portland, OR lawyer who was whisked away and locked up in secret for several days prior to his family being told where he was, followed by Justice Dept. press releases bragging that they had caught a "Madrid Bombing Terror Suspect." Yessiree...and the press releases extolled the FBI having absolute proof, in the form of Mayfield's fingerprint found on a plastic bag thought to have been part of one of the devices.
Mr. Mayfield had an iron-clad alibi, but because he had represented Muslims, had converted to Islam, and had a Muslim wife, the FBI would not listen...not even after the Spanish government told the FBI that the print was not Mayfield's.
The FBI continued to insist that it could NOT be wrong, and that the print was a "100% match."
Ooooops.........the print belonged to someone in the other hemisphere.
Golly, gee, Mr. Mayfield...we're kinda sorry, sorta, now please go away.
Uh, oh...Gerry Spence is litigating a civil rights lawsuit against the FBI in federal court over this, now? Gee, Brandon, where's your sense of humor? C'mon, we must tolerate these little annoyances in order to protect the nation!
I'd like to finish this post, but I must log off and rush to my Neighorhood Terrorist Identification and Surveillance Citizen Committee meeting. A guy down the street checked out a library book about the Koran and he has all these weird antennas in his yard and on his car, and my neighbor down the street thought she heard Morse Code coming from the guy's window the other day. He also has really weird license plates...K7-something...probably a terrorist agent number. By the way, one of his antennas is up on a big tower and it spins around all the time. I'm pretty sure he is broadcasting cancer-causing radiation all over the city. He must be stopped. I'll let you know how it turns out. He has a beard so he must be a jihadist.
