Paypal does not give buyers any protection whatsoever. They are aimed at nothing more than to help out the ebay seller rip you off.

I bought a rotor a couple of months ago,a and paid a premium. ad said it was rebuilt and in nice shape. It was DOA when I received it. Seller refused refund. Paypal required I send it to a rotor service for an estimate. A rotor service (well known here)dissasembled it and checked it out. I was given an estimate for $285.00 to rebuild. it was corroded inside, and the gears were shot.

Paypal #The told me to return it to seller for a refund. Only after I had paid $45.00 in shipping, and a $75.00 estimate fee. The seller said he would indeed refund the rotor if it was rebuilt. What a Crock. don't count on Paypal to help you out of anything. you will loose. I am done with e-bay, and Paypal.....

Many years ago, when E-BRAY & PayHELL got started, I was very leary of them both. I heard horror stories, from my friends about being ripped off and merchandise much less than advertised. Then, PayHELL's database was compromised and it's customer's bank accounts were ripped off by black hat crackers.

I decided never to do business with either E-BRAY and it's clients or PayHELL either. I don't give anyone my bank account info and pay those reputable folks I do business with by U.S. Postal Money order.

It's like the old saying goes: Ya' pays your money and ya' takes your chances

Respectfully submitted,

I had a problem with not receiving materials purchased on Ebay. Sent a complaint to PayPal and they had it resolved in about 2 days, got a refund in my PayPal account. Good job.

As stated many times on many different threads, buyer beware. If I was purchasing this rotor and the ad said it was rebuilt, I would have asked more questions.

1) By whom
2) What was replaced.
3) Was it tested
4) Please fax or email the repair receipt.

Just like anything else, caveat emptor. #The few times I have used it I have not experienced any problems, but neither have I given them my bank account information. #Such information is confidential and none of their business.

As to anything else, you have to carefully read what you are wishing to buy, asking the seller about any points you are unsure of. #Then, you must make the final decision on whether or not to purchase the item.

All internet transactions are subject to a certain amount of interception, no matter the security of the site or the effectiveness of their encryption. #The best thing to do is to stick with Internet retailers with which you have a good business relationship and be well-versed with their refund and return policies. #

Always thoroughly research any Internet-based company with which you intend to conduct business.

As I said earlier, Let the buyer beware.

PS: I conduct regular business with Amazon.com. I have purchased a wide range of items, from books and CD's to stereo systems. In each case I received prompt service and speedy delivery of items. In only one instance did I have to return something. In that case, Amazon offered a refund; instead, I elected to receive a credit for a future purchase.

Why not file a small claims action against the guy in your county? That will get his attention and if nothing else you can ruin his credit. Tack on all of your expenses too. People are sued from across the country all the time.

I have used eBay and PayPal now for a few years. I have never had a problem although I am not the biggest buyer either of them have ever seen and I am very descriminating. I don't just look at a feedback number. I also go in and read feedback and see if they have sold similar items, if so what the feedback has been on those items. Someone with an excellent rating when selling bulk clothespins and a poor rating when selling electronics will not sell me a radio.

I've been selling my underwear on Ebay for years and Pay pal has been no problem.
Can I say no come backs?

I have purchased several items through Ebay over the last few years and never had a problem. In one case the shipment took a little longer than expected, but the seller responded to email and sent the item by a faster method at no extra cost after discovering that his assistant had gotten behind.

Check the seller's history and read carefully to make sure that there are not a bunch of ringer posts in there.

If you have a good experience give possitive feedback and visa versa so the rest of the buyers have a chance for a decent experience.

Both Ebay and Paypal work well. At least when you consider the millions of deals being done on any given day, The few problems encountered are small.
The rates however ARE high! #All this easy dealing costs money.
As others have said, #BEWARE when dealing with strangers! # # # # # # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Important comment...
-re the message from k5mke. The name he used for e-bay was probably a typo, but I would like to point out that I, E. BRAY, from the UK, have no connection whatsoever to e-bay, or paypal, except as a satisfied customer.
Thanks, folks. 73.

I use Ebay and Paypal. Recently I got stiffed on a laptop on Ebay that I used Paypal to purchase. I filed with Paypal and got my money back. Some people have had problems, some haven't, maybe it's luck of the draw.

i've only had one deal go bad on ebay ... and i'm pretty sure this had to do with some bad luck and naivete on the part of the seller. the goods never arrived, and after following up with the seller without satisfaction, i took it to paypal. two days later i had my €20 back.

the key seems to be to do it right and follow their rules. when asked to prove that he sent the merchandise the seller sent a photograph of an envelope with my address on it (and a stamp) ... but he had no proof of sending or proof of delivery.

there's definitely risk involved when dealing with randoms--services like ebay and paypal can reduce that risk, but can't completely eliminate it.
