Has the *ME* generation removed all traces of being considerate? I remember all the times I was told, as a child, to put myself in the other person's shoes, to take the smallest piece of cake, and was asked, "How do you think that made him feel?" What about thinking of the other person first? Has all this gone away? Are we all becoming increasingly more inconsiderate? Your thoughts, please. (I said please.)
Yes, I'm afraid that it is a slide on an increasingly steep and slippery slope.
The "I want it NOW" philosophy has so completely enroached upon our society that fast food has replaced dine-in restaurants, swipe cards have replaced the "pump jockey" at your local service station, and "K-Mart and "WalMart" self-service superstores have replaced the department store where sales-people anxiously stood by, ready to help you make your selection.
Retail organizations ( gasolene, food, clothing, housing, etc. etc. ) are all looking for higher and higher profits, so they remove the sales staff, and the few that remain are much too busy stocking shelves, etc. to serve the customer.
One of my pet peeves is the cell-phone. I have seen people so engrossed in their conversation that they didn't even look at the person behind the counter in the convenience store when they went in to pay their tab. If I was one of the people behind the counter, I would give their change back in "monopoly money" just to see if they were paying ANY attention to me at all. I bet the person on the cell phone would just wad it up and stuff it in their pocket, and never even notice the difference!
We won't get into the "dumbing down of America" when it comes to amateur and commercial licensing. That has been beaten to a pulp in other threads, and I am only briefly mentioning it as another example of the trend in this country away from higher values!
The "no child left behind" program has forced educators to "teach to the test", and many higher than average kids are being bored stiff by this country's education system.
The "radical 60's hippy generation" got a much different idea of what was cool and proper. Unfortunately, a lot of them did not teach their children any differences, and that is one of the reasons we are sliding down that slippery slope.
Not only in this country, but I believe things like this are happening world-wide. If we don't see a reversal of this trend, I believe that things are going to get much worse than they are, even right now.
It could very much become an "Every Man for Himself - - Dog eat Dog " society in the not-so-distant future.
The only hope is that things will change, or The Lord will come again! That's what I believe !

Yep....We don't even CONSIDER millions of people until we think that their leader is developing nuclear weapons. #At that time we CONSIDER whether we should nuke them all. #Aw...maybe it is now us that is not so CONSIDERATE...but IMHO it is our president and vice president and their administration that are not so CONSIDERATE....BUT we as a nation voted for them TWICE...without CONSIDERING much.
Yeah...The last one out is a radiated rotten egg...if he or she can't get evacuated with the masses.
The more oil costs per barrel...the more profits are made by CEOs of oil companies. # They don't share their pie with anyone...but expect our government to help subsidize them. # Where but in America?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif # It is the "American Way" of doing business! # Wot http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif? Do you expect us to be Left Wing Communists?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
I dunno if the Lord will come again. #Maybe he is all spent out by now.
What gripes me is that George W. Bush got elected again #without the blessings of any real wise men.
w2ilp (Innocent Last Person)...I'm never in first place. #Maybe not because I'm CONSIDERATE...Maybe because I'm a loser and I'm the first to admit it!

Pooh ™ © ® and his pals may LOOK warm and fuzzy enough, but they'll kick yo' shiny A** if you use their image without the Express Written Permission of Major League Baseball and the National Brewing Company.
You did NOT see a group hug picture of Pooh and his Pooh Pals. You did not. You only THOUGHT you did. But you did not. It was not there. It was not there.
That is all. Returm to your posts. Nothing to see here. Move along now.

Much as I like Eeyore, being considerate of others isn't just a fantasy, is it? Would it hurt so much to think of someone else first?

I also consider that cell phone users are the most inconsiderate people on earth. As mentioned above talking check out lines, resturants, supermarkets, even sitting on the can. Yes it actually happens.

I'm going to take the topic of Consideration/Being Inconsiderate a little further and include CONTESTING PRACTICES. Your thoughts please.

i used to work for a CEO who would take his wireless laptop into the can. when he left the firm's employ i told him i (the i.t. director) didn't want it back. ewwww!
AAAH! Now we get to the meat of the matter!

MMM-kay Joy, is this to be an anti-contest rant?
If it is, it is best to say so right out and not beat around the bush.
Did the recent IARU contest interfere with something you wished to do?
If so say so!
Just for the record, contests are here to stay. They've been a part of Amateur radio almost from the begining. And to add to your frustrations, they're getting more popular all the time.
Just like QRN, QRM is something you learn to deal with or you find another hobby.
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary

I will give up the radios when mid-week is lost to contests as well. As it is, I can live with going QRT on the weekends.

When I go through a door and someone's behind me, I automatically hold it. There's no thought given to the act. It's just habit.
I cannot count the times I've had my arms full of all sorts of stuff at work and had doors let slam in my face. Thanks, ya useless &^%t.
Another thing I'm noticing is the ubiquitous insistence on money. I do someone a personal favour - fix something, for example - and am often offered monetary compensation. No, I don't want it - just help someone else out in turn. Why do I have to explain this?
