View Full Version : Russian Jet crash kills 150
CNN Story (http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/07/09/russia.crash.ap/index.html)
After working on Aeroflot jets some years ago I can say that there is no way on Gods earth you will get me to fly on a Russian airliner.
Tires are worn bare, lights are burned out, bolts only finger tight, and the scariest thing I ever saw was the time a couple of us went inside to check out the cockpit.
We open the door, and we find the pilot, co-pilot and flight engineer still onboard. They were sitting up front smoking cigars and passing around a bottle of vodka. We just waved, closed the door, and got off the aircraft as fast as we could.
Da! Send bodies to Box 88 Moshkow!

I'm picturing a scene from the movie "Heavy Metal" where the two alien UFO pilots are thoroughly hammered and are trying to dock with their space station:

Are you confessing to a crime? #If what you say is true it should have been reported by you to the FAA. #I had serviced a lot of Collins gear that was used on commercial airliners of all nations. #I know that if any of the field service people or I saw or heard about anything that was unsafe it would have been reported. #No foreign air-transport organization wants to lose lives or aircrafts. # These matters are nothing to joke about. # There were cases where South American airliners (I won't mention which nations) were not being maintained properly. #Whistle blowers reported the problems to the FAA. #The planes involved were grounded until the troubles were properly inspected and repaired. #At the large international airports there are inspectors from Boeing, Lockheed, and other airframe manufacturers; as well as from the FAA in the USA and equivalent authorities at foreign airports). #The inspection personnel working for the foreign airline company (in the case mentioned Aeroflot) are not the only ones who can get involved in enforcing safety requirements.
w2ilp (Initiate Logical Priorities) #FAA and international safety regulations apply to all aircraft.
