Since the doctor won't let me lift anything much heavier than a fork with food on it for at least a week, I have been working on the artwork for a number of the "olde tyme" QSL card designs (that copyrights are not a problem). K4OAH helped with some various colorations on one of the designs.

There are several different colors of the old General Electric "From the log of" QSL cards, a variation on the old Walter Ashe QSL card, and the WRL "My QTH" cards. All of these can be downloaded by "right clicking" on the graphic.

All of the graphics are at 300 d.p.i. so they may appear to be a "bit" large on some computer monitors. But, be assured, that they are the correct size when put into a graphics program.

The cards are at the bottom of the links on the K9STH website

http://home.comcast.net/~k9sth

They are free for anyone's personal use.

Glen:
Thanks for sharing--hope all is well on your end and put that fork down before it becomes a bad habit.

GLEN...put that fork down and use the cw key or pick up a microphone.

Plenty of great amateurs out there that know your call sign...let them hear your voice or communicate via cw with you.

LEI:

I am not really overweight but I have lost almost 15 pounds in the past 6 weeks. I "acquired" chemically induced diabetes (not bad but enough that my doctor wanted me to alter my diet) a couple of months ago. Cut back primarily on sugar but not much else. However, I eat a whole lot of the "freebies" (lettuce, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, etc.) so I didn't have to alter my diet much at all.

My wife and I have also been walking around the block each evening (a little over 1/2 mile) to get some exercise. Any more and my rheumatoid arthritis acts up. However, exercise is good for diabetes. Also, spend anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 hour in my swimming pool which helps as well.

The doctor had me go to a dietician and if I ate what she suggested I would be up to at least 250 pounds in a month! Dropped from 195 to 180 (am 5/10" tall and of a "husky" build) and am still losing.

My father got chemically induced diabetes back in the mid 1980s from all the heart medicines that he was having to take. I got it from an experimental rheumatoid arthritis drug that I only took a few times.

EP:

I get on the air fairly regularily. Usually on 40 meter CW looking for DX. My phased verticals make working DX pretty easy but they are not that good for stateside contacts.

those are pretty cool ... is there no copyright restriction on the use of the GE stuff?

Hey, Glen! Watch those carbs also. Some can really kick up glucose levels.

HCM:

General Electric, and quite a number of other companies, used to furnish QSL cards as advertising items. They did this by the thousands. As such, they definitely did not care if they are copied.

HAY:

The "freebies" have very little carbs (that's why they are called "freebies") and I seldom eat things that are high in carbs. Occasionally some potatoes or bread but little else. We have been cooking in canola oil for quite some time and that is another "good" thing according to the publications that the dietician gave me.

I don't count calories, but since I have been losing weight I obviously am "burning" more that I am taking in with food.

My wife saw something on television about aspartame which said that many people suffer from joint pain if they intake this. I tried some soft drinks with aspartame in them for about 3 days and my rheumatoid arthritis really started acting up (joint pains). My wife's eldest sister lives on diet coke and that definitely has aspartame in it and she definitely has had a lot of joint pain. I don't know if she is going to something that doesn't have the chemical in it, but if I were her I definitely would stop drinking the soft drinks with aspartame in them. I know that I have and my joint pains have decreased substantially.

...so is Alabama too close or too far away for your " phased verticals " ?

I have a g5rv ( ne/sw null ends ) but I can build a 40 meter dipole in a matter of ambition ( want / need to do it ) Only problem is it wont be absolutely positively vertical, at the most a 45 degree angle and not THAT high on the upper end ( 42 feet If I put the upper end on my tower ) .

We can do cw or voice.

We just need you to stay AWAY from the table ( except for 3 small meals a day ) and need yoou to be exercising, or on-the-air or on the computer. No junk food and no soft drinks.

...NOW what I need is a stationary bicycle hooked up to a generator hooked up to a battery to charge up for talking on the radio / using the computer....or a generic supplement....with a microphone hanging from the handle bars...and a special bracket to hold the keyboard steady on top of the handle bars while he petals.

I should be exercising instead of tapping on keyboard. ( I bet a reader or two says " me too " )

Bottom line is --- we dont want a dead Glen.
We need you to last at least another 30 years...or at least 25 past when ever the FCC allows folks to use hf without learning morris code....( which ever comes first ).

If we did not like ya, we would nt make all these long winded posts . Not just any one gets this kind of treatment....especially from an old grouch like AI4EP ( and he aint THAT old ...yet )

Great Artwork, Glen! TNX

Somewhere I think I have some blank QSLs which were published by RCA Americom (the satellite division) with a graphic of the RCA Satcom-3 satellite on the front. I worked for a photo studio back then and used the hot-stamp machine to imprint the cards with my call, but I didn't print them all. If there isn't a © on it, would you be interesed in a more-or-less pristine one (Assuming I can still find one)?

EP:

Alabama is too close for even a single one of my verticals. I don't have up a low dipole right now which would work MUCH better.

Don't have to worry about me, my cardiologist says that I have the heart of a 25 year old. Unfortunately, it is in a 62 year old body!

GKT:

I can take a look at the card and see if I believe that enough people would be interested in reproducing them. There are several people who are sending me various cards for me to look at.

The GE card, the Walter Ashe card, and the WRL card were probably the 3 most popular cards during the 1950s and well into the 1960s. When I did the artwork for the first GE card I got so many requests for the WA and WRL cards that I felt obligated to do them. I have the artwork for the Hammarlund QSL card but it was done by someone else and I need his permission to put it on the website. If I get permission then I will put up actually 2 versions of this card. One is the basic original with only the date changed from "19" to "20" and the other has a slight modification in the receiver notation.

The Walter Ashe one looks good.

Here's what I did with it..

Pardon the markup lines, I didn't crop them out, but you get the idea ;)

Glen, you missed the stock bit; was this done on white card stock or ?

All of the cards that I am going to reproduce will use white card stock.

Glen,

Need a hand with a "stateside" dipole on 40/15? #I'm sure between the 2 of us we have everything it will take to get one up there for you (you have the parts and I will climb up to install, just not too high up the main tower!). #Let me know, I may be available after church on Sunday...Got 2 harmonics in town this weekend to run ground control and gopher duty!

EP,

The phased verts are DEFINITELY not gonna work for continental US operation...That setup is a DX worker DELUXE! #Working JA stations at almost noon is testimony to that for sure! #But we'll see what we can do about that dipole... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Actually, we need to put up a "parallel half sloper" for 80 and 40. That will use the main tower for the "counterpoise" of the antenna. Such is what I used to have up and it worked pretty well for the "close in" stuff.

It is a (female dog) not being able to climb much anymore.

Since I "dumped" Comcast Internet a couple of months ago they finally got around to "dumping" my websites.

I am in the process of chosing a reliable web host. I don't want to use the Yahoo - GeoCities that comes with the AT&T fiber Internet because of all of the advertisements plus the slow speed that the connection often has. Besides, GeoCities is available to anyone who wants to use it and it is really full of all sorts of "stuff".

Will let everyone know when I get the websites back up.
