I just wanted to Thank the Owner of QRZ.COM for the fine service being provided.

I used the QRZ ham practice radio tests, to study for my recent upgrade to Extra. I have also been following this and a couple of more ham forum sites, and I find this one to be the most informative and helpful. Keep up the good work.

No, you are not the first.
I have been lurking here for a few years now, there are also one or two other UK regulars.

Don't be bashful, guys. Chime in.

All contributions to the debates are accepted gleefully...

well, maybe not exactly gleefully...

come to think of it, they might cause a "bit of a row" on occasion, but......

Nah, sometimes it REALLY is best to just lurk.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif The way the EXTRA class questions are done was a big help for me...here on qrz...I could go through it 3 times, get different questions each time...so I learned more .

One other site I tried used the SAME questions over & over and that idea might be good for memorization, but you dont learn much. Also if your actual test had different questions, you would be totally lost.

So this system here on qrz is a lot better.

One change QRZ.com has made to their practice exams, and something I consider to be a great improvement, is to allow you the option to either take a practice exam of 35 or 50 questions or to run through each sub element in whole. This ensures you have the oppurtunity to view each question where you may not using the random generator.

My license is courtesy of the Gordon West books/software, QRZ.com practice exams, Tony Lacy's NuMorse Pro and my own determination to do what I had put off far too long. I also did a couple of practice exams at eHam.net but very much preferred the way QRZ.com does theirs. eHam.net used one continuous page, scrolling down question by question with no results shown until the end. QRZ.com's system of clicking on your answer and receiving instant feedback is something I found very preferable to the single page format.

To give you an idea of how usefull I find QRZ.com to be. I have never used a start page with any of my web browsers. I have always had my browsers start with a blank page. For the first time since I have been on the internet (since 1996 or 97) I have QRZ.com set as my start page in every browser on every computer I own. My online day starts with QRZ.com and with good reason.

Incidentally, I did a SOTA activation on 2 metres this afternoon (G/CE002) and worked a 2E0, also portable, who told me he had just passed his FCC exam including morse! I didn't have time to ask, with a summit to qualify, but I assume he will be hamming across the pond at some point.

Going back to the original thread, I agree and think this is the best ham radio site either side of the pond!

(Oh, yes, guys, another Brit, there's not too many of us but we add a little to the flavour!)

I actually put a button on my home made logging program that opens up QRZ.com and shows the info on the current station when I click on it. Great when band is noisy but probably cheating... But if the guy has initials only, I can only guess the name...

its saved in my internet favorites, its the main favorite link on my website, and its the only site i go to look up people's callsigns when needed. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif That said, QRZ.com is my favorite ham radio site.

This and amfone.net are the only ham radio sites I use. Nothing I want to see on the others.

As always, Fred, thank you!

Congratulations on the Upgrade Gary. I agree the resources here at QRZ are the best. QRZ is a modern Ham tradition right up there with Heathkits, Collins and Ameco. I have heard from many Hams that credit their first license with help from the exams. That's great for the hobby and another great reason to subscribe.

Thanks QRZ. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
