View Full Version : RG8U - For real or not?

Did anyone hear the fiasco on 14.275 last evening? Was station RG8U name is Belden from Monrovia or somewhere, for real?
At first I thought it was a taped recording, but the voice was repeating callsigns that had made a contact.
Then a ham from Kansas made contact with RG8U, which really made me wonder. After the QSO RG8U stated he had just made a contact with someone in Kansas by the name of Dorothy! Well that clinched it for me...had to be some sort of prank call.
Just wondering if anyone else heard it and what they think. It was around 18:00PST and lasted for a good hour or so..

RG8U is well known and hails from the Belden Congo.

His son "Junior" is RG58U and can be found making connections around the bands.

Do not work anyone identifying as being from Slobovia, as that's on the Banned Countries List. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

haha, damn I was hanging out in the cw portion of 20 and completely missed that. I would have loved to work RG8U, that would have been my FIRST DX contact !!!

Be careful working RG8U. The call can be contaminated.

He operates from a shielded location and spends spare time tightening his braids. I understand he wears a jacket all the time but can be found exposing his ends when working near antennas.

I don't trust anybody like that.

Yeah, he's badly twisted at the core, too...

I agree,

RG8U is well known to be a very UNBALANCED fellow !

5Z4GT should be able to rectify the problem, but if he is too weak to hear, 6V6GT should be able to make him audible.

Steve,
You forgot to mention Belden's other son, RG-8X, thought to be illegitimate... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

No, that couldn't have been RG8U...He's been busy on a FEEDING frenzy for several years now. Oh, well, his LOSS is our GAIN.

Didn't RG8U change his call to RG-213U through the vanity call system? But watch out for his brother RG11U. He's on a higher level, but just as imbalanced. Both of them can be pretty high strung around antenna towers.

Yea, I worked him with my new linear, it uses a pair of 1N34A's in push-pull.

That's gotta be the wurst one ever!!

And 1N34s are always used in push-push, never in push-pull. They need a lotta push.

1N34's only work in push-push. 1N34A's will work in push-pull. CK-722's in diode configuration can be substituted.

BTW, that would be the infamous PL259. I guess Barb only copied a partial call... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
But I worked his mate, SO239 not too long ago! They usually work DXpeditions as a team, almost like "hand in glove." At least, that's what my Aunt Enna told me.

I worked R2D2 during Field Day, right after working C3PO. Some coincidence, huh? But does anyone know the QTH of 6L6GTB? He isn't in the QRZ database. Somebody said he may have upgraded and changed his call to 6L6GC.

Touche!

The sad thing is, most of the "newbies" (from the last 20 years or so) probably don't know of which we speak. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

There aren't a lot of transistors that can do the same. But I knew one crusty OF (now SK) that used to keep 813's at the appropriate temperature also. But I never could tolerate Schlitz...
