What town? How far away from Michigan?
I'll be there.
Good luck.

You didn't say what town.
I'm in Los Angeles. If you drive past, I'll be sure to hear you. You can drop in for a cold one, if you wish.

Unfortunately, many of the amateurs around Panama City and Panama City Beach are not that friendly to the tourists even though their economy really depends on tourism.
My wife's eldest sister has a house less than 5 blocks from the beach (nice section, not the "rent houses - she lives there year 'round) on Petral Street.
My wife and I have spent quite a few vacations in Panama City Beach and most of the time I have only worked other tourists. Once-in-a-while a local will come on one of the repeaters and have a nice QSO. But, more often than not, if two tourists are having a QSO a couple of locals will break in and then start talking to each other delibertly leaving the tourists out.
Now just a few miles west the situation is completely different. From Destin to Fort Walton Beach to Pennsacola the amateurs are very friendly. It is just in the Panama City / Panama City Beach area that they tend to be unfriendly.

Glen, sorry to hear about that!
I myself have truely found out about how unfriendly some of the ham operators are around here, normally during the morning time one of the repeaters owners NX4E he's always either on 147.075 or the 446.00 and the same for myself we always will be the ones talking to each other because aint much of anything that goes on around here for repeater use. From the way I was told and understood that along time ago some of the big repeater owners and operators had a big clash about who can run what and how it was gonna be done and some of them didnt see it that way. I myself Glen, im a nice guy who always love talking to the operators from different states that come down here for vacation and also I know this place wouldnt make it if it wasnt for the tourist. The next time you guy's are down here try the 147.075 repeater or the 446.00 simplex frequency thats where myself and NX4E hangs out. I myself would hold a QSO with anyone that would want to talk. Sorry to hear about what you went through. 73's Harold (KI4MBK)
