Had a guy call me tonight on the local repeater and tell me thanks for getting him interested in amateur radio. #

Now, I am not one for 2m FM but I do monitor the local repeater since I know quite a few of the local ops, and we do tend to announce when 6m is rocking!

Tonight I was listening and heard someone call out for me...I answered and he said he had been looking for me for the last few days...I told him my name and then got his and then he said thanks.

Seems that he had been a scanner listener for a while and I was one of the local stations that he had heard. #He then told me that he had looked me up on QRZ.com and had gotten my e-mail address from there and sent me some correspondence. #After talking to him I went and looked in my archives and found his e-mail...He had been asking how to get into this service. #I found my reply and I am now grateful that I had taken the time to respond to someone I did not know that was asking about amateur radio.

I am walking a few feet above ground after talking to this man tonight...I hope I get the chance to have this conversation again in the near future!!!!!!

Now guys, you are beginning to understand the rush we OFs have when we can get the "lights to come on" for someone here on QRZ.COM , or in our personal encounters with others!

Good job! 73, and keep it up! Jim

Jim, you are so right...I wish I could do it on a regular basis...

But, since I can't, it is nice to hear someone new that I have talked to

BTW, I think there is someone on here that can say he saw my light come on...

I do thank him...I am wondering when he will give me the go ahead to say whom he is... #Not going to say who he is, but as a hint I will say that he is a moderator...

Hi Charlie and all,

I'm in the process of introducing Amateur Radio to a scanner buff in Montana via e-mail right now. I doubt he'll be on the local repeater when he gets his ticket eventually but I just MIGHT break down for an IRLP contact with him just to say hello. He's just one I've caught in my net, some are already showing up here because I sure advertize this site often enough. Help me out guys and I'm sure you will, there are plenty out there who would like to take a step up from just listening to us.

I was expecting you to pop up on 6M the other evening when the band was open between here and TX. I will be 'in da shack' tomorrow evening about 9PM central time.

Be listening and SHOUTING Tom...BY golly we need to work soon, Lord knows we have tried enough! Are we going to have to break down and do it on HF with CW?!?!? I would prefer 6m since that is where we started listening for each other.

VXA, keep on mentoring! It is really a great feeling to have someone tell you on the air that they have listened to you for 3 years and they just recently got their ticket!

Hey AG3Y send me $1,000,000 as I was born a Limey and after reading your comments about English houses I'm suffering tremendous mental distress. A legal eagle will be calling on you tomorrow. I've just discovered this is a great way to get rich.

I remember listening in on a scanner to a local repeater where two older gentlemen would talk often about their female conquests (both were nearly 70). One in particular talked about his girfriend at the laundry in a local town embellished with his derring-do. (All clean).

When my call was posted, I got on the air and called the laundry lover guy. I told him I was a new Amateur and I got his name when I went to pick up some shirts at the laundry and oh by the way, congratulations on his upcomming marriage. Told him the lady at the laundry said they were getting married. ROFL!! He almost had a heart attack.

Its great to help folks get on the air and even nicer when they say thank you.

I agree about new guys ( and gals ) being great. The best net control we have on our local VHF net is a relatively new guy. I don't think he sees himself as the best net control because he compares himself to the many old-timers we have in this area. He's really the best we have though because he is friendlier, and everybody has more fun when it is his turn to be in the barrel as net control for the evening.
