...The Horse magazine describing how Ham Radio is used in conjunction with with mounted operators in search-and-rescue and other emergency operations. Unfortunately the magazine's website is subscription only.

I am not a mounted SAR member but I don't ride anywhere without my HT. Most of the places where I ride have no cell coverage. I need to be able to get help for myself or folks I ride with, should the need arise. It's a great idea to take along the HT. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Does the RF make their meat tougher later?

If it wasn't for horses Hamdom would not have a Wouf Hong. #The truth is that H.P. Maxim found a device that was used to hold horse's mouths open so that they could be doped or force fed medication. #Maxim knew that automobiles would replace most horses and there would be no use for the horse mouth prying tool. #He was about to discard it but he had a better idea. # He wrote a fable about it being an instrument of torture for hams who didn't stay in their bands and sent too many CQs without IDing. . #
Just remember that:....He got it from the horse's mouth.
A winged horse named Pegesus was on the cover of the old Ham Call Books before there was QRZ.
A brand of gasoline also used a flying horse as its logo.
w2ilp (Informative Logo Ponies)...and legendary horse flies. #They're off and running....Hmmm no ham rig can be off and running like a horse can.
HOw was the Rettysnitch used on horses? For turning them into geldings??

If that was in fact the origin of the Wouff Hong, this would be it's modern equivalent:

It's a BRITISH horse.....
I will assume that you would have to use an HT on a horse.
The electrical system is not compatable and getting a ground for your antenna is nearly impossible!

I think I am at last beginning to understand this "British Teeth" think that you Americans have.
Having seen Sgt John Bunnel introducing his cheesy American cop car camera show, WOW! what a set of pearly-whites he has!
They look most un-natural.
