View Full Version : Getting technical, not then, not learning much

Is there a way to find out what internet area might tell you all of this information in just a few seconds --
as an example
In the years 1991 - 2001 ( first 10 years of the Technician system being enacted by the FCC )
Which USA state had the most / least # of new Technician amateurs.
Which USA states had the most / least upgrades to General or even extra class ( or advanced class ) in those 10 years
Which USA states of those states had the fastest upgrades in calendar years.
Which USA states , of those who did NOT upgrade, but DID renew their license after the first 10 year cycle ended ( remained licensed legal amateurs ).
Which of those USA states had the most rule violators of the Technician class...General Class and advanced and extra class.
How fast did they become charged with a rule violation AFTER upgrading to be any class other than Teshnician class, of those who DID break the rules and got caught ?
====
What this kind of information MIGHT yield is -- how many folks that dont upgrade in their first 10 years break the rules...how many AFTER they upgrade break the rules, and what part of the country they may be from in relation to other rule breakers or non - rule breakers ?
Then you could throw in how much money they made per year, marital status, what kind of vehicle they drove, what brand of radios they used on amateur frequencies, and so on.
But, what you will not see is an advertisements by a certain brand name saying " our brand is used to break more FCC rules than any other brand ".
So is this idea possible, or not ?
No a google search did no good...nor did yahoo.
Tried that already.
...or maybe I just need to go build another 20 meter dipole ? hee hee hee http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I'm thinking that you should work on a 300 GHz dipole.....

You might find something here. (http://www.ah0a.org/FCC/)
I don't know of a breakdown by license class / state / year.
Why the obsession with Technicians?

There are more technicians than any other class.
Technician is the beginning class...you have to be a tech before you can take the test to become a general or other class.
The test administrators dont just let you walk in the door and take an EXTRA class test without ever passing the technician / general test.

Robert:
You have done it again! Your information is definitely incorrect. The Technician Class of license has been around since 1951 and not 1991!
The FCC has made various changes to the license including things like 2 meter privileges (which the Technician Class did NOT have until 1960) almost since the class of license was implemented.

Glen,
I think he is trying to gather information on the intergration of "no code" into the Technician license. This would basically make this a fishing expedition to draw out those who have not taken the element 1 exam and fuel their fire. Just another boring Sunday afternoon.
Please note, I did not use the word troll (until now.) http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
Here's one to add to the list:
How many Technician class license holders would be more likely to consider learning the code and taking the element 1 exam if they weren't constantly being taunted by the "upper classmen"? Yes the taunting goes both ways but this thread is proof that it does not always start from the "no code" side.
Robert, to answer part of your question. If you refer back to Riley's address to the crowd at Dayton you will find that he made a point of saying that most of the more serious violations do not come from new operators but from those who have been around awhile. This does little to answer your question as far as what license class or how long after upgrading the violations were reported or acted on but I think you would have to assume that most are probably from higher class licensees who have gotten to the point of thinking they own the airwaves and can do as they please.

I know what he "intended". But, unfortunately, Robert has very little knowledge of the history of amateur radio and is always making "off the cuff" remarks that are often basically incorrect as well as "trolling".
I have been trying to get him to at least reduce, if not completely eliminate, his trolling.

DLG & STH ---in ways, both of you are right.
I am referring to the current crowd of technicians, which I guess legally should be referred to as " no code technicians ", or " the technician system which began on 02 / 14 / 91 ( February 14, 1991 ).
More or less I was / am trying to get some readout on what areas of the country have the most violators, what class they are, how long they have been licensed, etc...also to note the exact opposite of what areas have few violations of any class operator, how many years they have behaved theirselves, etc.
PArt of the problem lies in the readers. Many folks look in the corner and see the call sign and develop a mental picture of whether they like the post without ever reading a word, just by merely reading the call sign.
But I have a unique situation, which I can control, but usually do not take the effort to correct...that is what you just saw ( the dots ... ). Hardly any one else does this but me. We have our lousy spellers, our folks that can not make complete sentences, and other ways of telling whose post is whose by their writing style, but AI4EP is by and large the only one that uses the .... do much. Sometimes it is just a few...and sometimes it is nearly 15 or 20....................
Sure it can be fixed, but it takes time & effort to do it. Far simplier to continue with the ....dots.
Did I lose any one yet ? If so , some one go back, find them and catch up with the rest of us. I will type slow so you will not have to be in a big hurry to find them and then catch back up. This also will help those who can not read fast. --- say whattttt ? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif ----
I got a P M from some one yesterday that said " only reason he even comes to qrz any more is to read what kind of stupidity EP is saying today, that every one else is boring ".
I knew that some day one of my kin folks would get a computer. Man, I sure was dreading it. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think I may have some of the information that you asked about. I might be able to dig up answers to your first four questions. I saved 'The W5YI REport' pink issues for the years you are interested in and they do have the listings of the number of licensee in all classes by states. The W5YI Report stopped publishing in July 2003. I definately have all infortmation from 1991 to 2001 that you asked for.
It will take some digging on my part. Are you serious about wanting the information? What is your point? There are ten or more tables involved and it might be best if I mailed you copies of the stuff that you want rather than tried to post it all here.
I reserve the right to not provide this information if you intend to use it to start a civil war between the hams of different states. The Technician class did start in 1951..I do not have any stats that go back that far.
w2ilp (I'll Look Presently)...but not till after Field Day when I have more time.
