Hi, I just wanted to drop a few words about my radio the FT-857D. I have one of the later versions of this radio
where I guess most issues were fixed. My radio has not had the problems similar radios have had in earlier models. I'm not saying all are good but not all are bad. I
have only had one issue and that is the menu for it but after a little while of playing with it, It becomes very simple. It takes some learning but keep in mind this is the same radio as the FT-897 just in a smaller package and I strongly recomend Yaesu's programming software
as that will pay for itself the first time you use it! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I wanted as well to say that I am enjoying mine. Its only a week out of the box, still learning all the menus. #But very nice design. I work with a menu type of machines all day, so menus are second nature to me, once I know what each menu does.

I have one of these with the ATAS120A antenna for HF & 6m and a Diamond Supergainer for 2m & 70cms I am dyslexic so the manual is very hard work but I am persistant so I will get there , I am having problems with the ATAS120A , I guess that it is the grounding so any advice would be well recieved when it is solved I will be happy to update this post . My reports have been very positive on audio quality on 2 & 70cms both simplex and through my local repeaters. 73s de M1BPT

I purchased my FT-857 and ATAS-120 about two months ago and have gotten nothing but outstanding RST's. I've made contacts as far as Russia and Mexico from Philadelphia PA on RTTY and as far west as Indiana on LSB. My only concern is the ATAS-120 which sometimes wont tune. After a few minutes, it tunes, but I can't seem to figure out the problem. I'm about to redo the ground by placing a copper strip under the mounting screws to see if that helps.

Just got mine last week. So far I love it. I still prefer a radio with a button for each feature, but I'm getting used to the menus.
Great receiver, and the reports I'm getting have all been positive.
I almost don't want to put it in the van. But that is why I bought it. The wife and I like activating Light houses and Islands. I wanted a compact radio with all bands so I'd only have 1 mic. to worry about.
I will now look into an 897 for the house. With the software out there the menus aren't to bad to deal with. I found a piece of software thats a fraction of the cost of the adams software, that makes programming a breeze.

Just installed the 857D with the ATAS 100 in the F-250 to go along with my newly upgraded General ticket. First three contacts were Brazil, Italy and Germany on 20m. I think everything is working ok.
