Ever wonder who lives around you ?
How safe your children are?

The Internet has wired the world, allowing information to flow like never before. But the Internet also presents new dangers for our children. This tremendous tool has created an avenue for child molesters and pornographers to reach through our computer screens into our homes and forever change our small, safe hometowns. Parents used to worry about their kids talking to strangers. Now it seems commonplace for them to do so everyday online. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif "please be aware" for your kids sake.

I always wondered....If I want to become a sex offender, where should I register? Is there any kind of fee? When does it expire?

I don't have any kids living at home anymore...so I'm not too worried about sex offenders in my neighborhood. Some time ago I did get curious about how many sex offenders might be my neighbors...so I signed up on a sex offender web site. They wanted me to pay for the complete biographies of the local offenders which I refused to do...but they put me on mailing lists for stuff that parents might be interested in and filled up my e-mail inbox. I found out that if you seriously want a list of sex offenders in most states you can go to your state.gov web-site and get the information for free without getting your address sold to diaper services, car seat makers, phonics teachers and stroller sellers.

IMHO if you are looking for potential sex offenders of the future you can try to find some sex offenders of the past on your Classmates web site.

w2ilp (Increase Logical Protection)...also beware of non-sexual offenders who might offend for even more morbid reasons.

California has a pretty thorough website that is for free. Just look up Megans law and it's right there along with a few other states. The other day I checked my nieghborhood and found out that there is one on each end of the block. Since my street turns into an afternoon playground for grade schoolers this is not good. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Here in Seattle, you register as a sex offender at the same window where you register for a concealed weapons permit.

Though its nice to know where the registered ones are, the ones who usually should be worried about more are those who don't register for some odd reason. Most of them get caught and rearrested, but some don't.

Good to know where they all are. I've heard of some lawmakers wanting to fit them with permenant ankle bracelets, but dunno if that will ever happen...

All the terrible things attributed to adult males are so popular now. Why doesn't someone make a big thing about airhead mothers on the phone all day while their children are being run over by cars, trains, or vandalizing the neighborhood while daddy is at work.

I hate to bear bad news.

This site is inadequate.

I personally know of two sex offenders in my general area who are not shown on the site mapping but should be. They are registered and have been for years. No reason for them not to be locatable on this map. They are listed, if you know them by name and can type in the name. But if you know that much, why do you need this site? .

Secondly, one of these I know the actual charges. I typed in his name and checked. The charges are shown on this site as lesser than the real ones.

Third, I can find at least 12 known sex offenders located within my mappable area. This sites listed only two.

I suggest if you are interested in sexual offenders in your area, go to your state's OFFICIAL sex offender web site and get the real information. There also official US government web sites that will allow you to search by city or state. And you do not have to register or log in.

prob
sex offender is such a large grouping

from some 16 year 2 month old boy
geting busted for having sex with his
15 year 11 month old girlfriend

to those poor people that got
railroaded in the day care cases

some of them are still listed as
sex offenders even though
everybody knows
they did nothing wrong

person that did something foolish
but not hurtfull 25 years ago

is on the same
list with true recidivous crimminals

There is a bloke in my area on the list because of a statutory rape charge against him dating back years ago. He is presently married to his "victim" and they have kids. Absolutely nothing abnormal about this couple or their relationship; the only "pervert" in this case was the mother back when the girl was 14 or 15.

He still has severe restrictions on where he can live and what job he can hold.

Ridiculous law.

Who'd want to rape a statue?

Well, maybe some pigeons. They seem obsessed with statues. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Statue? I dunno. But quite a few years ago some fellow walked into a department store and tried, during regular and busy store hours, to rape a female manniken. No shame at all. Just walked up to her, pulled up her dress and did his thing.

It sounds kinda funny. But you gotta wonder what was in this dude's mind, not only to try raping a hunk of plaster in the first place, but to do it in front of a dozen or so people.

I think the charges were just lewd behavior, but I wonder, and never heard, if he got any mental help, or simply thrown in jail for thirty days and then put back out there to maybe go after that statue we're talking about.

Mac you've got it right. There are different kinds of sex offenders. Today they are listed as Levels, and I think a Level One may be the one who is unlikely to ever repeat the act, or do anything else wrong, and a Level Four is one who will do it again the instant he has a chance, but I may have those backward.

There have even been cases where a school teacher touched a student, just a hand on the shoulder, and was arrested for it. In at least one such case he was branded a sexual predator, but I do think he finally got it cleared up. Heck when I was a kid teachers touched you all the time, slapping your hands if you didn't pay attention, patting you on the back when you did a good job.

We went kinda nuts with all this. The day care scenario should have told us we had slipped way off our trolley, but it didn't. That was remindful of the Days of Salem.

Lots of innocent people, not just a few, but lots, have probably wound up on someone's sexual offender page, whether it was about kids or adult rape. And getting it changed is nearly impossible.

These are our Salem Witches of today. We are on the edge of cutting a hot cross in their foreheads and branding their chests. Justice gone wild.

And we treat the guy who casually touches a young girl, once, by brushing her hair with his hand, exactly the same as we treat the guy who grabbed the girl off the street, shoved her into the back seat of the car and raped her. We don't seem able to see a difference in the severity of the crime.

At the same time, we turn three-time murderers loose on the streets! Send 'em back to do more gangster drive-bys, and have more drug turf wars.

I'm for control and punishment of sexual predators, and, in fact, of ALL predators. But when we hear of sexual crimes, we lose all sight of the law and justice. Hang 'em from the nearest cottonwood.

Anyway, because I am associated with local authorities in some ways, I do hear of, and learn about, sexual offenders in the area. Not all of them, I am sure. But enough. I certainly have no problem with the idea of monitoring them, or having probation/parole officers spring surprise visits on them, to see what they are doing, and of checking them immediately when a sex crime is reported. That is the price they pay. But I am against branding them on the forehead, especially the Level One folks who will never commit again.

Justice is blind. And it may be at times, more than a little bit stupid.

edit: But I would NOT trust a web site that failed to list several KNOWN AND REGISTERED (some on probation as we speak) sex offenders in their so-called map.

Pitifully inaccurate. Could it also be inaccurate in the opposite direction?

If you want the standard, sequential registration, there's no fee. There's only a fee if you use the Vanity Sex Offender System.

And kindly remember, those ankle bracelets are Part 15 devices, so if your neighbor's linear makes your toes tingle, that's life.
