I just bought an item on eBay and attempted to pay with PayPal, but their stupid system charged the wrong account. Then, when I tried to see if there was some way to correct it, I somehow paid from the wrong account a second time.

The account had no funds in it to begin with, but I couldn't get it deleted in PayPal's system, so I am basically screwed with two overage charges on an empty account.

Does anyone else have these troubles with PayPal?

I have a PAYPAL account and use it only for whatever buy/sell I do on Ebay. There really is, not a much more secure way to do business with strangers.

The crooks will always ask for western union moneygrams and the like.

But, that said, I assume you have more than one checking or credit card listed with them. The way round that is only have one PAYPAL account money is taken from.

I have ISSUES with Paypal because they take a cut on all the business they do.
No wonder the Ebay fat cats are so fat.

What, you expect them to run it for FREE?

I had a similat thing happen to me.

I selected one of my credit cards but the purchase went to my checking instead.

One thing I do like however is I can transfer money to my daughter each month without any problems.

I don't think if you ask for a western union moneygram, cash,U.S. Postal money order that it brands one as a crook.
I sold on ebay and had pretty good luck and never used paypal......until a friend who has a great business on eBay talked me into getting.
The next item I sold I used paypal ........and last time. Remembering eBay OWNS paypal also and Ebays fees are now like 8% or more plus all the other fee's they charge for every little thing you do except your basic text.It smacked to me of "Double Dipping", of course it isn't and it is the american way, but it didn't set right with me.
Well, got the notice paypal had my money but now they wanted another fee to transfer it which came to $20 some dollars! That was it for me and paypal.
I don't know all the rules and regs of paypal, I'm sure for those who sell volume there are ways to cut your fee's down, but not for those like myself who have only a few items now and then.
For those with one or two products in a warehouse etc, a fixed shipping and who have the volume, they seem to do well. Otherwise you have to set a reserve much higher in order to cover the cost of their, (eBay/PayPal), combined greed, in my opinion. I Will Never Use PayPal, I fired them.
Anything electronic.......I have been using QTH.NET, not eBay.

"What, you expect them to run it for FREE?"

When PayPal first started they stated that no user fees would be charged as they planned on making money "on the float" or from the interest they collected while money being transferred sat in their bank account. #

Millions weren't enough and they started to charge user fees and bump up the interest by freezing user accounts for months at a time while they 'investigated complaints'.

Go to the link I posted and read more. #If you don't read the info on the paypalsucks site and you get burned by them it's your own fault.

I have not had any problems in the past with PayPal until just over the last month or so. My son bought a guitar and there was a problem with his Paypal account so I used mine to pay for it. I also have wrong credit and bank account numbers from old accounts that I cannot seem to get rid of. Sometimes Paypal can make your life easy and sometimes it's like working for the government.

They also have a link for another credit card service if you are a frequent seller might be worth it.

But I think things generally sell for a better price if you take paypal. People like that convienance thing.

They definitley are VERY non upfront about how it works, re the transfer thing, and the "$1000 Buyer Protection" that is actually $175.

It's a scam like gasoline, if you want the biggest online auction, you have to play by their crooked rules.

I have used PayPal for years, and never been charged a cent, either direction. Just get the personal type of account.

Been using paypal since they went live and been buying/selling on Ebay since 1997.

Never had a problem with either one. If you pay via the wrong account, you can ask the seller to reverse the payment which will refund the paypal fees as well. I have done this a couple times with people as long as I have not shipped the item yet.

People bash Ebay and Paypal fees, but it is really the cheapest way to sell your item to the largest audience.

How much does it cost to place an ad in the paper these days? Ebay and Paypal are a fraction of the cost of a print ad and you are seen by the world, rather than a small local group.

The couple bucks in fees is very reasonable considering how many people you are able to sell to.

I have heard all the horror stories about Paypal yet have never encountered any trouble.

Only problems I have ever had are from bidders who do not read the terms of my auctions. They win an item and then try and dictate how I will ship the item and how much they will pay for it. Sorry dude, read the auction terms and stick by them.

I have my account and a backup source for funding.
I did not know they could charge an account without money in it.
Before you make a transaction it offers you a alternate, if you have one, and tells you what account the money is to charged to.
And I have changed my accounts a number of times, it's easy to do.
If you don't understand how to do it just email them and they will explain it to you.

I was also an early adopter of PayPal. I don't sell much online, just an old item here and there. Stuck with them for awhile, but I wasn't happy with them, and ultimately I decided that it's easier/less risk for me to take checks from strangers...

Other people I know have had very good experiences. Like any big company I suppose. Some will like them and others will not.
